Why don't horse people pick up their horses droppings?

There's a very nice marked route in our city that wanders through ancient city streets then out into the countryside via an old railway track past paddocks, through woodland across old railway bridges and through picturesque villages.

Whoever designed it and maintains it does a very good job. It's very popular with walkers, joggers, cyclists, families pushing strollers and/or wheelchairs, dog walkers and horsey people.

But this morning, on our early bike ride we came across an enormous dump left behind by a horse that seemed to have been suffering the after effects of a big curry on Saturday night.

It covered almost the entire width of the track and it was practically impossible to pass without getting slimed.

Boot prints, tyre tracks and various other unidentifiable skid marks had turned this pile into a revolting looking mess.

Dog owners are obliged to pick up their dog turds.

Why not horse people?

How are they to control the horse while picking it up?

Horses can be classified as a means of transport. But yes if they got off they could get kicked by the horse etc.

They can tie the horse up while they make the track safe and pleasant for other people.

What about cows? They crap everywhere when they move fields. Cow people ought to clear up after them.

I agree, it makes picking up dog pops a bit insignificant if you have a massive heap of horse right next to it. It's quite unfair really.

Quite common around the world - the NYPD horses have to wear them nowadays, and all the tourist-trap harse and open coaches around Central Park etc.

By and large, horse manure isn't too offensive, because of the horse's grass diet.

It is still littering and dog owners are 'persecuted'.

Because dog mess is foul, and it isn't practical to carry a shovel and bin bag when out horse riding.

Well keep horses off the highway then if you feel that horseriders owe no responsibility for their dumps.
