I want to see more proper solo performances at Bootcamp, with just a simple piano or something, this is how it should be. Not lumping everyone together in groups (including the solo boys/girls) and make them each sing two lines of a song, its silly and makes for a disjointed performance, particularly as (is often the case) the song is ill suited to a person's pitch and voice.
I don't care really as i stopped watching the auditions/bootcamp a few series ago as it was so overtly scripted, edited, lame and shaped.
The whole thing of some mentally unstable person squealing tunelessly on a stage made me wretch... I also found the flip of that, a chubby/spotty/baldy/old person with a "voice of an angel" equally contived and puke-making. They stopped looking anything like proper auditions years ago and the whole thing looks so pre-ordained and pre-selected now I just don't buy into it and can't see point of wasting my time watching all the preamble.
I want to see less emphasis on the judges' personalities and see more contestants - but don't give us loads of backstory. The music should speak for itself.
They done it like that for the first three series. The OTT change was made in 2007.
It's when i watch back those three series that I realise how good it was and how it is meant to be - its just a completely different show now.
I think the question for Syco is whether what people want on internet forums (ie. back to basics) is really what the public at large want, they can't afford another few million off the viewing figures.
on the x factor netherlands version this year the judges know their category before the auditions begin.
That doesn't seem like a good idea at all...
Think of how the judges will try to manipulate whether someone makes it through or not. They will likely try to grab everyone they can for their own category, all while having the possibility of voting strategically to take out any serious competition. Hope it won't be done like that over here this year.

I agree with you. I still think the categories should be given just before the start of Bootcamp.

It hasn't been broadcast yet so I am not 100% sure how it works. However I believe they have went back to 4 closed audition rooms, and each Category auditions infront of that judge and his/her team of 3 or 4 helpers in order who 2 select for bootcamp.
Each Judge gets their category as soon as auditions end.
Each Judge gets three helpers.
Each act performs a song of their choice, and the judge takes it down to just 25, after also looking
at audition tapes.
On the second day of Bootcamp, acts get vocal training and perform a song from a list of pop songs the Judge has given them.
On the third day of Bootcamp, with 15 acts left they perform to a hundred people and now not the helpers - only the mentor - a song to go to JH. 6 acts go to JH.
Post your idea on BC - I know mine sounds similar to the first series but I want it like that!
I'd honestly just follow something to Hollywood Week in American Idol. A solo performance, followed by a Group performance, followed by a solo performance with the band/instruments if wanted.
None of those ridiculous pre-bootcamp cuts when the contestants get there...

Agreed, those really get under my skin.
I would be incredibly peed off if that happened to me.

I'd much rather see more of the decent auditions. Not the clowns and fame-seekers. People who can actually sing.
So much about these episodes I don't like but don't have time to get in to it properly now.

I think Pop Idol's stuff like that was the best. I don't know why they don't just bring back Pop Idol tbh
There
I liked it too. The only problem was series 2, but it didn't seem like a fix.
