I am new to tablets and would like to know can they take photos or movies, which is the best priced under £300.00 and also how do you go about protecting against viruses. I am also no good on jargon.
Many thanks

Yes mostly they do though , not a substitute for a movie camera more like a camera phone video

A Nexus 7 (2013) is also a decent choice, a 7 inch tablet also 5MP camera.

I would advice you give iOS and Android a go before you settle on a device, it's all personal preference really.
Both also provide a 10 inch variant but they come in over your budget.
And lets not forget you also look a right tit
What do you know about it and also when they say 3G who do you subscribe to and where would I find the costs
Thanks
Janet
Do you really need 3G? If you mostly use it at home and you have WiFi Internet there, it is an unnecessary expense.
I thought I could access my emails, when I am out & about competing at events

lol......:D quite right there. I was in Disney last year and the amount of people using there tablets, especially iPads to video was amazing. Children running around + water + general holiday fun = a broken tablet.
Plus the fact when using it as a video you not only block out your vision but that of anyone standing behind you.
Have you considered a smart phone such as the Nexus 4? It's great for checking emails when out and about and takes great pictures.
Also if you then get a Wi-Fi tablet you can piggy back on to your phones Internet connection.
None of them are even close to a basic point and shoot compact. Some smartphones are just about in this terrirtory now, but no tablets.
Someone mentioned the iPad Mini. I have one of those. The camera is terrible. The number of megapixels means nothing if the lens and/or sensor is garbage.
My dad (in his 70's) has just bought a tablet to take on their travels. He asked my advice and also mentioned camera. I told him to forget and take his camera or he'd regret it when he saw the quality of the pictures he'd got. I then got him a 1st gen Nexus 7 so he doesn't have any choice in the matter as it has no rear camera!
(You also look like a tool waving a tablet around taking photos but thats a secondary consideration ...)
Some smartphones are well beyond (almost all) compact P&S cameras ....
But you're right - the camera in tablets are universally dire. They're fine for scape or capturing a moment when you don't have another camera, but to be used as your primary snapper .... bad idea.
Get the feeling that Nokia are intending to change that with the 1520, due to be announced in a couple of weeks.
Yes, I agree. I've used the camera a few times on my iPad, just messing around, but the results are poor.
I would say its best ignored for taking serious photos or videos.
Skype or Facetime work great though, so the cameras are not entirely redundant.
