Why ban songs?, that's pretty much the list of songs from the past played/loved to this day by radio

Sorry but I think that list is a bit OTT. I can understand why people might want songs like 'The First Time Ever I...' and 'Iris' banned since they are so overused that you just know the judges haven't put much thought into the song choice but why ban great songs like 'Lately' and 'Billie Jean'? They've only been performed once or twice. If it is down to the fact that you dislike the song, then I think that's ridiculous.

I wouldn't say they should ban any song but I'd strongly encourage them to use their imaginations and avoid 'Iris', 'Skinny Love', 'Someone Like You', 'Read All About It Pt. III' and 'Let Her Go'.

Purple Rain was the first one I though of too. It's just been soo overused since Ruth's performance and has never really had anywhere near the impact.

    Indeed.

It's up to acts to be creative with their song choices, maybe even change an arrangement in order to make an impression, rather than just doing the same old karaoke everyone seems to do.

alot of the songs mentioned so far have been songs that have only been sung like once or twice, i wouldn't ban any song i would just try and use more creative song choices that we haven't really heard on these kinds of shows.

    Purple Rain.

Nothing will ever top Ruth's "Momet", so stop trying.

    i agree. why ban?

let the judges decide if the act has something new and spicy to add to an overused song or they're just plain old cliche...

I don't know about banning, but when they get to bootcamp I hope they're given more choice than last year so they don't all end up singing the same song.

I was hearing Moos Like Jagger in my sleep:mad:

Purple Rain - nothing will top the Ruth moment.

Knockin' On Heaven's Door - again nothing will top the Ruth moment.

Always I will allow but nothing will ever come close to Ruth's performance.

Also White Flag should be banned - everyone's used it as a survival song.

Three songs which should be banned no matter what are Rule the World, I Will Always Love You, and Titanium!!!

Titanium has been used by just about everyone!

Also Alone, All by Myself and Total Eclipse of the Heart - although incredibly cheesy are great songs that shouldn't be banned because they haven't been used excessively.

Nothing to do with banning songs. Just, I and I am sure many others, wouldn't want to hear the same versions. If someone's going to sing Purple Rain for example, I'd like to hear a completely different version.

The one part of XF I really dislike is the group stage of boot camp where they always give them chart songs that are either near impossible to sing well or just painful to listen to. Expecting Get Lucky, Blurred Lines and Clown by Emeli Sande this year.

Other than that I don't really mind, though I'd welcome not hearing Iris, Purple Rain, I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing et al

I actually don't think we've heard I Don't Want to Miss a Thing or Iris that often. As for the former, I think only Danyl & Janet have sung it from all the series I've watched.

Feeling Good is another we've had more than once ;)

    Beverley Trotman
    Rachel Hylton
    Danyl Johnson

Beverley and Rachel were amazing - wasn't mad on Danyl's offering :o

Yeah but that's an example of a classic. You can't ban Ms Simone's signature slam!

I need to make a bit of money - I'll bet any of you £1,000 they play Halo by Beyonce on the audition round. Every single year without fail. Cheque through the post thanks ;)

The former, Treyc has sung it plus I'm sure it has been sung billions of times at bootcamp

I would not use any Lady Gaga song...
Sorry but most former X factor renditions sound horrible.

Well that's nice in theory but in reality they don't get a choice in what they sing. The lack of creativity comes from the producers not the acts.
