Hello,
I have been considering this for a while - I now usually buy myself bluray disks over DVDs and there are a few games that I would like to purchase - but as I do not have a desktop PC - I would have trouble playing the games.
How does the PS3 rate as an alternative for me?
All opinions and suggestions are more than welcome.

Games are great on it.
Most PS3's have CEC control that if connected to a compatible TV that may reduce the need for a dedicated remote control.
How does that work? I think my Samsung can communicate with the ps3, but I'm not sure what controls do what?
Yes my Samsung has Anynet+(HDMI-CEC)
I can't say what you can control with the Samsung remote. But if you have a PS3 apart from the original fat one you can activate CEC control.
With my Sony TV when I turn the console or HDMI DVD recorder on my TV will switch on or switch to that HDMI and I can use the TV remote to carry out navigation through the menus and in film pop up menus and use all general playback and chapter skip controls. If you need to carry out more complex commands then it is easier with the PS3 accessory remote of using a controller.
I use mine as a bluray player as it's one of the best around. I'll echo getting the dedicated remote, just to make things easier to navigate.....Only costs around a tenner if you look around......;)
Anyway, it have been fine, does the job well, also can be used for netflix, lovefilm and catch up TV. You can also stick all your music on it.
Oh yeah, you can play games on it as well. If/when mine goes belly up I will get another one.
Agree with other people about getting the remote.
