Looking like Denmark and lovely Lene are gonna miss out too.
It would be sad to see them miss out and have to go through the nightmare of final qualifying. I was quite hopeful they'd turn things around before this and score enough points in mid table to scrape in. They've just beaten Germany so maybe they still can (though that might mean they have to beat Scotland too ) . My guess at the moment would be that it'll be between Denmark and South Korea for that last qualifying place.
And on the same subject: Team Muirhead with another two solid wins today, (giving her 6 wins which is already as good as they achieved last year) not only stands joint top of the table, but we can now safely assume that they've qualified Team GB into the Womens' Olympic Curling Tournament. So, that's the first box ticked.

Of course we haven't seen all the games so it's difficult to tell, but reading the line scores and marks there seems to be a "killer instinct" in Muirhead's rink that was missing before. Like pulling a big four to kill the game, that sort of thing. She beat the Canadians, got hammered by the Swedes but the Swedes have lost a game meanwhile...so nothing to worry about there.
My only worry about the rink is Claire Hamilton, one out of every two stones seems to be off the mark. (??)
Another good day's work, with two wins, sees them guaranteed a play-off place. One win tomorrow against either Russia or USA will guarantee the 1v2 playoff. Come on girls, finish the week off in style!
Impressive stuff from Eve today, played at 100% to completely maul the Russians and at 93% to beat the USA. She's now ranked top of the 4th players and Anna's second of all the thirds. They're finding form at the right time .
Sadly I don't think the play-offs are being shown by Eurosport TV.

And in the final session when Russia are playing USA to see who clinches the final play-off place. The player is only showing the meaningless clash of Japan v China.
According to one of the commentators, there's 60 plus media in Riga following the Japanese team and in contrast I bet Scotland has precisely zip. Hopefully now that Japan are out it will be the 1v2 match which is shown on youtube and not the 3v4.
Scotland v Sweden is going to be interesting to see if Eve can overcome her bogey team and if also Sweden don't have a play-off collapse like they did in the Europeans.

I can't work it out Denmark have made it haven't they?
From what I can tell, if USA beat Russia and Switzerland beat Denmark then there will be a 3 way play off between USA,SWI & RUS for last qualifying place. If either USA or SWI win then they will play RUS for a place. If USA and SWI lose then RUS qualify in 4th place.

Today's results mean a tie-break between Russia, USA and Switzerland for the 4th spot and also with China and Germany losing it means South Korea qualify for Sochi without being at the World Championships.

Yes, if my counting is correct, our Danish friends have 10 pts and make it along with last years surprise stars South Korea . Who would have predicted Germany would have such a nightmare tournament; they will have to go to the final qualifyier in December along with the likes of China, Japan and Norway.
I've had a day out (it's a hard-earned holiday) and apart from knowing SCO and SWE made the 1 - 2 I've lost track!
Be up early tomoz anyway to see where we are up to r/e tie-breaks/playoffs. AFAIK all those on 6 have to play with themselves, but in what order?

Ah thanks Glad the Danes pulled themselves together in time. Hope Japan make it through too their skip's a cracking player.
Aye Germany were poor. I wonder if that's the last we've seen of Schopp in a major championship?

EDIT RUS v SWI @ 7am our time.
.....
These three teams are now involved in a tie-breaker series to determine the last slot in the Page Play-offs. USA have the best draw shot challenge record of the three, so they will face the winner between Switzerland and Russia in the second tie-breaker.
And we say goodbye to the Russians - beaten by Trinzoni in the extra end. USA-SUI next up (dunno if there's any TV coverage?) and later the 1 - 2 SWE - SCO (again, no announcement on Player - maybe it will come up later, or as it's Scotland, we won't bother showing them.....).
A "dour match" as described by the commentator with lots of mistakes. Hope Scotland can pick themselves up for the semi-final as Eve will be kicking herself that she couldn't force Sweden to take 1 in the 10th and get into an extra end with the hammer but Maria Prytz played a good final stone to knock the 2 Scottish stones out. It has to be said Sweden were in control of the match until Scotland got the steal of 2 in the 8th end. Onwards and upwards.
Eve played poorly. Particularly in the first half she couldn't get her weight right at all and her draws were scoring 55% at one point :eek:So taking that into consideration they did well to run Sweden so close.
Had her penultimate stone not picked or the final one been a couple of inches to the left they probably would have won.
So on the assumption she can't play as badly again I'm pretty confident

Work the principle that you can't lose to the same team three times....
But there's the semi-final to get through first; a silver medal would be a fine achievement.
Gaah, not looking good. Tell you what, they need to get this Canadian Statto bloke doing some on-screen graphics every time, he knows more aboot it than anyone else,.

Makes this afternoon's game Swe v Can very interesting.

It's going TOO well!
Lets get revenge!!!!

Come on Anna.
Be interesting to see what line up they go with in the tiebreak. Hope they do it.

Yep, 5.45 on Eurosport 1.
It's on the player now.
