Looks really nice tbh! Will look great next to an X1 it's the last 360 model we're going to see and signifies the end of an era. I'm just happy they announced it as it means Microsoft are intending to keep them in production and alive for the foreseeable future.

Then again it's an odd choice that both Xbox One and PS4 have dropped optical to, since it's pretty much one of THE most used connections for A/V units, especially towards the the consumer affordable market, I know HDMI swap units have come down in price over the years but still, just to outright cut off a format that's been used for years which is perfectly fine with Dolby Digital 5.1 AND DTS 5.1 (which most Xbox 360 games couldn't even use, space issues, etc).
And again, using the much cheaper camcorder style A/V plug eliminates not only Component, but also S-Video and RGB Scart, leaving users with the much inferior Composite. Hell, the classic consoles have more video options than this and next gen do!
So how many are you buying 2D?
The 360s is the superior console by far, just as the PS3 Slim is over the Super Slim (just not quite as drastic lololol). The 5.1 optical-out removal won't be an issue with HDMI input into an X1, which is the thinking there I believe, make it efficient and cut production costs, unfortunately we don't see the benefit of that just now. I think you'd have to be pretty mad to buy one of these at the moment as they are quite clearly only released to take advantage of people with more money than sense. This will be the last model of one of the best consoles ever made that we see which could continue for a couple of years, in that time prices are going to hit rock bottom.
If they could someone patch it so the Xbone Controller will work with the Xbox 360, then it could be of use, perhaps have like a USB Cable Link between the consoles so it can exchange data, link up the controller, etc, making the transition of playing older games through the new console as easy as possible?
My xbox 360 elite (fat) makes a bit of a racket.
gotta admit mate it looks gorgeous. It'll sit nicely next to my ps4 i think as i need to replace my 360 anyway as it's gone bang lol.
Sure, I'm using a HDMI receiver now, but it would be nice to keep that option.
MS *finally* added it to the 360 with the 360S... and now it's gone? WTF?
Not everyone has an HDMI-capable AV receiver.
And the normal AV has gone too, so you can't just use any of the VGA / RGB SCART / Component / Audio Only leads?
That's a pity, I know a few people (myself included) using VGA cables on the 360 at the moment. Sort of tempted to get a spare of the existing model now.
My best guess, based upon MS' behaviour recently, would be "stupidity".
Yeah. I'm using VGA at the moment due to not having enough HDMI inputs.
Yeah does seem stupid and i would of been interested in getting one but without the optical support and 1 less usb port people are better off going for the 360s since it costs the same too.
MS: Look at this wonderful One box we have to sell you
Customer: But I don't have internet
MS: Not to worry. Then we have a 360 you can buy.
Customer: But my AV amp doesn't have HDMI
MS: Never mind, you can buy this wonderful One from us
Customer: I told you , I don't have internet.
MS: How about this 360?
Customer: FFS I don't have an HDMI AV amp
MS: Oh, OK, Why disn't you say so. Rest assured, we take our customers needs very seriously. Erm.... Have you thought about not using 5.1 sound. Our stereo through the TV is improved via the Infinite Cloud you know. So much so that It will sound like you are listening to a 500 Watt 9.1 system and all though your 5 watt TV speakers. Its amazing, I promise you that.
Customer: But only the One has the Cloud
MS: Oh yeah. Why don't you ask one of my colleagues, they are bound to give you a different answer that may be more to your liking. No guarantee any of our answers will be correct but we will try to make the answer seem like it satisfies your needs
Customer: Sod you, I'm buying a PS4
MS: Have you considered buying a Surface. That might suit your needs!
Yup. Although of course I'd assume that the 360 S will now be discontinued...
Have you considered a career with Microsoft's support or PR departments?
Yes, but they are looking ahead to THE FUTURE, where everybody has an HDMI AV receiver
Optical speakers?
Yeah that wouldn't surprise me but it'll take time for the 360 S stock to dry up so i'll grab one by the weekend have to do it before these 360 E start appearing in my local game stores. I won't pay the same price for less features, i wonder if MS will be out a cable to allow the 360 E to have opitical like what came with the 360 Elite...
How dare you!
Sorry, you wanted me to be specific? The sound bar i use is hooked up to my TV directly using an optical cable.
Someone had a pop at me on here the other day for being pedantic so i suppose this is karma biting me on the ass.:D
