Just lost a word file, came up with a error when I clicked save before file completely vanished.
Created thread to ease the anger and stop myself from hurtling PC out the window.

Create thread to vent your anger at yourself for not backing up i guess.
It was the save file button that made the damn thing fudge up.

I mean, if there's something there you might be able to open it with notepad or summat to recover most of the words.
The one that always used to bug me was that I'd open a file, alter it for another purpose then hit "save" and realise I'd overwritten the original file with the new version.
The MS Office icons are the work of the devil. If you have to click on file>save or file>save as it gives you the extra few seconds to think about what you're planning to do.
Open file and immediately Save As file2.
Save or Save As (file3, 4 etc) , as often as every 10 mins.
Finish session. Delete previous temporary files only when getting untidy or running out of space.
All important files reside in 3 places, of course.
In spite of this, I pull my hair out as much as anyone over things that still go wrong.
It sounds like it could be a memory fault (hardware)
Worth checking the memory.
The is the best course of action.
Steve Ballmer is the man you need to direct your (misplaced) anger at.
Haha! Superb.
He'll certainly feel a prick in the morning.
Don't loose heart or be angry, there is a way to get to your work.
I recommending opening up your PC, you'll need a torch and binoculars.
At home I use text editors (Sublime 2 or Vim, depending on what I'm doing) and only go near a formatting tool when I've almost finished. It allows me to concentrate on the content rather than what it looks like.
Don't worry, people at work think I'm eccentric too.
Of course, you have to sell your soul to another multinational...
Could do the same with Office Web Apps.
Start >> Run >> %temp%
Then find the file.
Have you asked them all?
I agree:)
I don't think you're eccentric. I think you're misguided.
You don't need to use the formatting tools on a word processor until the end if you don't want.
I wouldn't do that. Gates was a nerd and most of us could probably beat him up. Ballmer's like a giant man-gorilla, though. Not the sort of guy you want to get into a fight with. I'm fairly sure he gave Bill Gates a swirly in order to get the job at Microsoft.
Your not the only one to think that.
Only because Microsoft pushed it into companies and it have become a standard. Lotus used to be a good little office package in it's day and my sister-in-law still prefer word perfect to MS word.
i don't like the new versions of MS office with the silly ribbon menu system, i now use Libre office, does what I want and I bet it will do what most people want and for free/.
Yep and run the risk of google scanning your documents for words they can use to chuck adverts at you
