There's no denying the Brits are absolutely smashing it musically outside the UK right now. But who would you say the top 5 are the biggest right now globally?
In no particular order I would say
Adele
One Direction
Florence and the Machine
Mumford and Sons
Coldplay
Who would you say? That's my list. I struggled finding a 5th one but settled with Coldplay.

Mumford And Sons
Florence + The Machine
Coldplay
Shout outs for Ellie, Calvin and Jessie J who having international success if ona somewhat smaller scale olly and emeli on the rise too
That should be ticket sales as well as album/single sales.
Seems you forgot Subo
Don't think she's in the top 10
Mumford & Sons
Coldplay
Florence
Adele
I know Radiohead look out of place there, but they're (And Thom Yorke's "Atoms for Peace") selling out shows worldwide in minutes.
When it comes to touring, you are right. He has been selling out all around the world for over two years now. Astonishing at this stage of his career.
Any five artists of today may be doing well, but go back to the 60's, early 70s, and our top five would have been,
The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
The Who
Behind them were a stack of other giants such as David Bowie, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Deep Purple. Black Sabbath. The Moody Blues, Yes, Jethro Tull, Genesis, Bad Company. I could go on.
Todays lot are hardly comparable.
Subo has sold like 20 million albums worldwide...
Sade $16,382,809
Adele $13,081,909
Elton John $11,973,990
The Beatles $6,743,863
Paul McCartney $6,726,519
Rod Stewart $6,388,756

According to this, Roger Waters is our top earner, with $21m.
Similarly with Alicia Keys (not UK, I know), even with her mainstream 'success' she appears to be a bit hit and miss with singles (particularly the past two albums) but her album sales show that she's still immensly popular.
Bit off topic, but it pleases me that you don't have to be constantly shoved down people's throats and charting in the top 40 every 2 seconds or make generic dance music to be 'popular' (although I do enjoy many a good pop tune!).
On that note, I'm going to go listen to Soldier of Love
The Cure are still selling out massive gigs, especially in South America and Japan.
Muse
Radiohead
Coldplay - unfortunately
Adele
One Direction
Coldplay
Mumford and Sons
*Rod Stewart*
Muse
There's a serious lack of Muse mentions in this thread! Their last album, released only a few months ago, went #1 in twelve countries and Top 3 in twenty five - success well beyond anything Florence and the Machine have ever achieved. Even dear old *Rod Stewart's latest album outsold Florrie (and Muses'), forty-nine years into his career.
Then as said we've got the likes of Sade, The Rolling Stone, Roger Waters, Sirs Paul and Elton etc raking it in outside the charts.
beat me to it!
There last album only went to number 1 in a mere 28 countries - clearly they aren't 'smashing' it enough...then of course there are those tiny little world tours they do pretty much every year.....
iron maiden
the rolling stones
acdc
adele

Yeah but Kate is exempt in my opinion!:D Seriously though she isn't that kind of artist to be in your face all of the time, she doesn't release that often but it's always received well when she does and she has more than left her mark on pop culture. So on an overall basis she is definitely a contender, regardless of sales in my opinon.
Right now in terms of sales it's obviously Adele & Emeli, as well as a few veteran rock acts/bands that still have big fan bases.
