Basically, remember when Richard E. Grant touched The Doctor when he was possessed by The Great Intelligence? I think that he could have transferred some of his all assimilating genetic water/snow/life force stuff to The Doctor when he did that so that when he regenerates, The Doctor then regenerates into Doctor the Twelfth with all of The Doctor's memories and abilities and with all of The Great Intelligence's memories as well. It could be great.
Remember that Richard E. Grant was, at one point, going to be the next Doctor: see The Scream of the Shalka.
As I said in another thread two days ago, Julia Sawalha. Well, the OP wanted to know who people would cast as the 12th Doctor if SM settled on a female for the role.
As for a male. Benedict Cumberbatch, or possibly Martin Freeman from The Office.
Jack Davenport (don't even know why)
Richard Madden
Damien Molony (I'm not sure with this one)
Rafe Spall (possibly)
Damien Lewis (would love this)
Idris Elba (would love this too)
Martin Freeman (ok, maybe not. He's one of my favourite actors so I'd love to see him in any role, if they were to adapt Touched By An Angel, he could be perfect for playing Mark)
Seeing as this should be the incarnation when the Valeyard splits off from the Doctor, the Doctor and the Valeyard should be played by Cannon and Ball.
Just kidding. Damien Molony, Patterson Joseph or Harry Lloyd all the way!
Iwan Rheon for me... he's conveniently Welsh as well.
I always think of him because I think he's a wonderful actor but then I always end up thinking he wouldn't be able to do it. I don't know why. Maybe he just looks a bit too young, like Alex Vlahos, he could be a great doctor in a few years time, he just needs to age a bit first.
A rather offbeat idea - I'd like to see an aging punk-rocker (50ish) with little or no acting experience but plenty of character and life experience. Sort of along the lines of John Lydon, Captain Sensible or Julian Cope (he would be perfect).
Will wait to see the 12th in action before deciding if i like the new person. Jenna will probably stay untill the end of s8. However it doesn't mean a new companion can't join them. Hope they will meet some interesting characters human and alien next year.

As for his companion, stick with Jenna.
Mathew Baynton (Horrible Histories)
William Beck (Casualty)
Colin Morgan (Merlin)
Anthony Stewart Head (Buffy)
But my dream choice (after a certain Mr Depp...) would definitely be
Sam Troughton (Robin Hood, Patrick's Grandson)
Imagine how cool to have a doctors grandson, plus Sam is an amazing actor. And gorgeous.
Omg yes! I'd never considered him before. I adored him in Robin Hood, he would make a fantastic Doctor!

Sorry for going for quite obvious choices.
sorry, but anyone else. Daft suggestions apart. Of which there's been plenty.

We already know that Jenna-Louise Coleman is sticking around for Series 8, so her again.

After seeing him spreading his wings further in A Field In England he is the man for me.
I would find it hard to believe he isn't on the list. Put a good word in Mr. Gatiss:)
**EDIT**
Then again he is playing Troughton in An Adventure in Time And Space so that would mess things up.
Or is he?????? Oh..he is. Bugger.
Same here but hopefully a non present day one though.
