    What's it do

There are no release notes as yet, but it is a mandatory update.

fw4.40 adds support for RC-S380 (a sony nfc reader) and system stability stuff

its firmware for new drive model 0xC : http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/Blura...ware_Revisions
an update for the 0xA - not for the rest xD
no syscon updates, no key changes

    Small pointless update then really

Cool. So now when I walk in with my Xperia in my pocket, the PS will turn on and load Skyrim ?

Wonder if they'll ever reinstate disk based backwards compatibility now their ps2 software emulator has been shown to be much more capable than they ever let on.

Dont be silly. There would be no money in that.

Indeed, don't know what I was thinking there! I always suspected (as many others did) that removing BC was really more about them cashing in with PS2 classics at a later date than crippling hardware costs.

Of course it was, If you can sell the same shit twice to the same person then you are onto a winner. I bet the PS4 will have the same thing.

Even some of the HD remakes are partially emulated. God of War HD collection is one such example. file structure identical to that of the PS2 versions.

No it'll probably automatically corrupt your save for you though.
