Sky News - Rigby family

Was it really necessary for the Sky News channel to show extended live footage of Drummer Lee Rigby's family viewing the place of his death and the tribute flowers?
It seemed incredibly intrusive and disrespectful and I am not surprised that the family were too distressed to give out a statement.
Sometimes the media should know when to stand back.

I don't think Sky News has ever been noted for its taste and discretion.

Grief porn..I hate it, very undignified.
Girlfriend/fiancee turns up at the scene one day.
Wife turns up the next..its not a bloody competition!
Should be about Lee & the horrendous crime not the flaming women

It's voyeuristic and totally appalling that these poor famiies are USED by the media in the height of their grief. The media should be ashamed of itself but then it sells papers and get viewing figures so they couldn't give a 4X.

It wasn't the media that put them in front of a press conference it was the MOD, they are the ones using the family.

I was watching Sky News earlier today, when this happened.

Now, I get that we all make mistakes in the heat of the moment, but this was not exactly a hard hitting story, and it's like she forgot her journalistic training, and the fact that she's not a partisan network anchor in the US.

Surely it's time to move this woman, who's far from a pleasant character anyway, off of our screens, and replaced with someone infinitely more qualified to do the job?

You can read the context of the clip here

They might have wanted to speak to the media and it was felt best to do at a press conference on condition the press keep away from their home.

There was always blood on their hands. The fuss over that came from one news report where they had turned the colour up on the video, making the blood stand out more. Whether they did it on purpose for that reason, who knows, but the guys always had blood on their hands.

Possibly the family gave permission to be filmed at the scene? If they wanted privacy they WOULD have got it,the police would have ensured that. OP jumping to conclusions.
