In Modern Doctor Who, there have been a number of trios throughout the series which have been around for a few episodes each series, but which one is your favourite, which one do you think had the best chemistry as a group and why?
9th Doctor, Rose and Jack
10th Doctor, Martha and Jack
10th Doctor, Donna and Martha
11th Doctor, Amy and River
11th Doctor, Amy and Rory
For me its 10th Doctor, Martha and Jack. I loved the chemistry between the Doctor and Martha, and then when Jack join in Utopia, they felt like the perfect group. The Doctor and Jack competing against each other, Martha and Jack both gossiping and both fancying the Doctor. The chemistry on screen between the 3 of them makes you think they are great friends as actors and when you see behind the scenes, this is a true fact, DT and JB playing tricks on FA , with the 2 of them acting like typical boys. I still like the trio of 11th Doctor, Amy and Rory, but when I compare it to this trio it feels really bland imo. The same goes with 10th, Donna and Martha, or 9th, Rose and Jack.
So what about the rest of you?

Davey, what have you done with Minky?
I was thinking the same thing!
I actually am going to go for one not mentioned yet. The 10th Doctor, Rose and Mickey. Thought they were great in the Series 2 stories they were all together.
And I agree with Tony that in Classic Who, it's has to be The Fourth Doctor, Sarah and Harry though I also like The Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe as well.
I try and spread the Peri love as much as I can.......:D
I just liked the almost paternal role the Doctor took towards Victoria and the relationship between Victoria and Jamie, kind of a brother and sister thing but with (on Jamie's part, anyway) an undercurrent of something more. Zoe was a wonderful character, but I never felt she and Jamie meshed as well as he and Victoria did (in fact, once Zoe arrives he's frequently treated as a bit of an idiot, which he really wasn't).
I can see that ... and Frazer did admit to having had a huge crush on Deborah all that time!
Without trying to raise the whole sad story debate thing again, I am curious to how you found the last few scenes in Fury From The Deep? I always thought Victoria's departure in that story was one of the most sensitive and sad farewells in the whole of Classic Who. I really liked the way Jamie tried to deal with Victoria's dilemma throughout the story.
Are you trying to get me banned - you know I can't resist such an easy opening for a punchline but that one would be X, Y and Z rated.
You know, it was tough going not to add to that post without getting banned myself!
For Utopia alone. A good mix.
Classic Who, 4th Doctor, Sarah and Harry.
The best trio by far.
thaty is an example of good writing; it got its point across really well without being overstated or dominating the story. It totally avoided going to extremes in either direction, examples of which would be the ridiculously overplayed and syrupy departure of Rose in the new series or the clumsy, forced, forgettable and totally out of left field departure of Tegan in 1984.
I see the point you're making about Victoria's farewell and I agree, but I always thought Tegan's was spot on. She'd been really impulsive the whole way though her time on Doctor Who and to just suddenly say, 'That's it, I've had enough.' it was her through and through and it didn't really affect the story either that much.
The Fifth Doctor, Tegan and Turlough were another of my fave trio as well actually, as well as Nyssa and Tegan who had very few stories together on their own without a male companion being there. Shame really.
but in terms of "TRIO" - 9,Rose and Jack because of Empty Child/Doctor Dances really.
My favourite combo.
9, Rose and Jack - If I had to choose!
Not sure why, probably because they owed each other so much. I didn't get that from the other line ups!
But I really enjoy the dynamic between Eleven, Amy and Rory... It's just so sweet
What I would like to see is Eleven, River and Jack... Talk about the universe exploding
My favourite trio were Doctor 2, Jamie and Victoria.....followed by Doctor 4, Sarah and Harry.
In new Who, if I really must, then I would choose the tenth Doctor, Wilf and the Master. No silly emo love stuff or playing at families in the Tardis going on, just three blokes doing what they do best.
