Was she? When did he find out?

It's just speculation by some over eager fanboys who put 2+2 together and came up with 5 based purely on the name on his mother's tombstone; Monique Delacroix Bond.

Oh right. I thought I'd missed something then.

Just watched this for the first time on Box Office. Verdict: Excellent, some great nods to the Bond franchise, such as the exploding pen, the DB5, Miss Moneypenny etc

It would have been nice to have had this as Daniel Craig's first outing as Bond, as it felt very fresh, and ready to go in a new direction.

I watched it again and while it's very watchable there were still some let downs for me. I felt they painfully underused Javier Bardem. He played the part given to him brilliantly as always but they could have done so much more with him I felt.. perhaps even having him escape at the end of Skyfall and carry forward into the next movie. He deserved a bigger plot. Perhaps even some scenes where Bond felt some sympathy towards him and had to battle his own personal demons of having been shot etc.

I'd have played it out with the final scene being:
M collapses in the church, Silva having left after a final scene with M. M orders Bond to go after Silva, but Bond realises M is mortally wounded and opts to stay with M instead. Much to M's anger. But eventually she gives in, and she dies in Bonds arms. A final line of:

M: "You never did do what I told you to"
Bond: "You wouldn't want it any other way"

Silva escapes into the darkness. The next film would then be Bond on a revenge mission together with a larger Silva sub plot.

I feel Daniel Craig played the part excellently in this film. He showed very real signs of age and a vulnerability we've not seen from Bond for a long time. He did well and I think he's established himself now in the role. Another 2-3 movies for him I'm guessing. Maybe more if they continue to rake in the money.

I agree with someone above. In a way it's a shame this wasn't his first Bond movie.

Ummmm no actually. When she died in Bond's arms she looked at him and with her dying words said "at least I did something right"

And this mean she's his mother how?

Lol and from that you got "James, I am your mother", that's taking 2 and 2 and coming up with 500.

The Mendes directors commentary was pretty good, I was wondering if he would mention the home alone reference at the skyfall mansion, and he did.

Watched this at the weekend, not fussed on the 1st 2 as I thought they could have been any action film, totally gone away from the bond theme, also not a fan of DC, but will admit loved this film, thought SM done a excellent job with bond and hope he does another one, brought it back to what it should be apart from DC playing bond.

How does that equate to being his mother?

Did you miss the fact she was referencing a conversation they had earlier on in the film.

Listen to all of the dialogue, it helps.

I can see why they went for the ending they did but I love your idea for the final scene, would have been great :)

Came home one day last week to me ‘Skyfall’ DVD. Good to see they have gone all out to create a unique DVD cover for the highest grossing and for what is considered to be the best Bond in recent years…..

I’ve seen pirates with better covers than that!

Still will rewatch at some point soon. Might have me boys round to watch all three Craig-Bonds back-to-back :D

I actually think something like the ending Inspiration came up with would have significantly improved the film.

A fan put together a tribute to the 50 years put to the Skyfall theme... watch it while you can, it's pretty good:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t10mNXtfdUw

And it shows how well the entire franchise of Bond seems to fit with the Skyfall theme.

    Practice what you preach

Here is an excerpt from Casino Royale:

James Bond: I always thought M was a randomly assigned initial, I had no idea it stood for...
M: Utter one more syllable and I'll have you killed.

For crying out loud M is not Bonds mother, his parents died when he was a boy.
As M said in Skyfall "Orphans make the best agents".

Didn't you think that possibly she was referring to the fact she lied and kept Bond in active service when he failed the tests.

    It's not Mother.
It's a code name, she just didn't want it revealed.

    M is not Bonds mother.

That is EXACTLY what I took it as.
She had the option to fail him but she had faith in his character and abilities, that is the thing she did right.

I didn't think that there was any serious debate about it.

Oh agreed. But sometimes a few extra voices might make someone realise they are taking the film entirely in the wrong context.

I didnt take that line in Casino Royale as meaning her name was Mother/M was really his Mother, IMO it was just Bond saying M was acting like a 'Mother' and he decided to take the piss :p
Any idea as to what M's real name is? :)

Take from this what you will,
Unlike the other actors to play M, Dench's character was never referred to by name on-screen. However, a prop from the final scene of Skyfall, where M bequeaths some of her possessions to Bond following her death, revealed that her character was given the name "Olivia Mansfield". As the character was never directly referred to by this name, its canonicity is unresolved.

I don't know why but the name Moira has always been in my head since that scene in CR. :o:D
