THE UK'S TOP 5 BEST SELLING ALBUMS
(To W/E 18th May 2013)
1) Greatest Hits (One) - Queen - 5,900,000 - (1981)
2) ABBA Gold - ABBA - 5,100,000 - (1992)
3) Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles - 5,100,000 - (1967)
4) 21 - Adele - 4,600,000 - (2011)
5) (What's The Story) Morning Glory - Oasis - 4,600,000 - (1995)
It is amusing that The OCC talks of the UK taking ABBA to its
heart, from 1974 onwards. We actually gave 'Waterloo' Zero Points
in the 1974 ESC! (I knew ABBA were going to Win - I do not know
what the UK Jury were thinking!)
NOTE - The Queen Album had around 566,000 Sales from
'The Platinum Collection' added to it, in 2006. Because it
was 1 third of the 3 Queen 'Hits' Albums in that Triple 'Set',
which was released in 2000.
'Greatest Hits II', & 'Greatest Hits III', had 566,000, (each),
extra Sales added to them, too. So, the 1st Queen 'Hits
Album has 5,334,000 Sales, as a 'stand-alone' Album.

Just co-incidental that four of the top 5 are by English acts.
Agreed. I like That's Me, Why Did It Have To Be Me and Hasta Manana. All album tracks.
I prefer Revolver.
Tŵo greatest hits, one revolutionary seminal album, two great collections of original works. At least all of these albums are essentially composed by the artists performing them. Four of them are by bands, not so many of those these days capable of selling these numbers, perhaps Coldplay?
I haven't got it either.
However, as I own all the ABBA studio albums, I never felt the need.
Ok, thanks for the clarification
Abba are one of my alltime fav acts, but like you i prefer many of the album tracks over the singles.
They will always be the quintessential pop group.
Benny and Bjorn were masters of constructing the perfect pop song and employed two of the finest female pop vocalists.
Timeless and immaculate.
However all of those albums deserve their acclaim. Quality.

I've never bought it though as like a previous poster, I own the studio albums so not much point.
Coincidently, Agnetha's solo album is currently number 6 in the album charts.
Australia is "Bat Out Of Hell" by Meat Loaf
Brazil is "Thriller" by Michael Jackson
Canada is "Come On Over" by Shania Twain
France is "D'eux" by Celine Dion
United States is "Metallica" by Metallica
Although this is Wikipedia, so.....
It still sells well every year:)
