and it was a curious call. I spoke to Phones4U tonight on the phone about upgrading to the iPhone 5. I had steeled myself to move to EE and was ready to leave O2 with a heavy heart. I've never had a problem with O2 but I want 4G with my iPhone.
I explained this and the guy said I could stay with O2 and once their 4G network launched in the summer I just had to dial 202 from my phone and it would work. I said to him that my understanding was that the current iPhone 5 would not work on O2's upcoming 4G network. He said it would. I asked him if he was sure. He said he was. He then went away to check and came back and told me it would definitely work.
So I took the deal. The call is recorded though and if it turns out not to be the case I'll be asking for a new phone in a few months.
Has something changed? Is the guy I spoke to correct?

You've been diddled my son.
Ah well. It's miss-selling and it's tracked and recorded so I'll be looking for a new phone once the time comes.
Yep, for £5 a month less than I'm currently paying for my 4S.
The iPhone 5 will not work on O2. You may be able to upgrade to a 4G phone as per O2's 4G commitment but that will involve most likely signing a new contract and paying a premium for 4G.
Only EE and Three's 4G network will work. If anything it's better to go with Three as they won't be charging a premium for 4G unlike all the other networks.
Phones 4 U should be shut down.
Edit: Just saw the phone call wasn't recorded by you. Well thats it now. Phones 4 U will just say the call was never recorded and your stuck. I suggest writing a letter to their head office or ringing them up and asking to return the phone. (if you want to) Doubt they'll care about you though.
You cant use their recording of the phone call then as evidence. They'll just say it wasn't recorded. They dont record ALL calls.
Then they could deny it ever existed.
Maybe call again and complain. See what they have to say...
Whilst I haven't dealt with P4U over-the-phone myself, the standard disclaimer is that calls may be recorded.
And more often than not, they happen not to have been recorded when it's to their benefit.
You'd be far better off returning it under the Distance Selling Regulations than accepting it and trying to get something out of them later on.
Have you tried returning a phone to P4U? They don't care. They will do everything in their power to get you to keep the phone for the first 14 days.
I'd be willing to bet that a business like Phones4U does record all calls.
We'll see. To be honest if they're lying I would only expect them to waive the further upgrade cost which would be about £125.
If it's an upgrade then your number always stays the same.
If you get a new contract you can transfer your number within 24 hours.
Surprised how people don't know this still.
If its being recorded it won't be able to determine when to stop recording because you are reading out your card numbers. "Fleeced" and "you've been" comes to mind!
Did you actually think I meant the recording equipment would magically not record debit card numbers?
Just try to calm down.
The operator told you that, did they? I was under the impression that the operators had no control over what was being recorded or what would be the point?
