Argentine Tango Music

See the See the Strictly Salsa thread and post music that you would suggest dancing AT to.

Don't try to be inclusive by adding pop chart music.

My AT is still pretty poor but I'll try and have a go.

Any suggestions?

Good Show HW58. I will lurk for now as I doubt I have much to contribute when it comes to real AT music despite going to two milongas each month.

OK well I am a bit stumped really but in the interests of trying to get the thread going or keep it going long enough for other AT dancers to find it I will have a bash.

But its more of a question. At the milongas I go to they have lately been playing a nouveau tango trackwhich reminds me of the Gorillaz track. Any idea what that is?

(A rather off the wall start I fear!)

I'm not a Gorillaz fan but it could be something by Bajafondo or Gotan?

I didn't know the first one its lovely but it has that uality about it that I have mixed feelings about. In part it makes me feel i am in down town Buenos Aires XX years ago and I kind of like the old world feel. But at the same time part of me is desperate to hear a remastered version.

Libertango I know - says molinete to me!

Track 3 is lovely. Hadn't heard it but have danced to flamenco inspired music. Remembering this reminded me of a tango version of Besame Mucho which is a favourite song of mine with or without dance.

I love Xavier Cugat but a pity about the sound quality on the youtube. Here is a good quality version that I have.

Libertango is another classic. Great video. Love the cello.

Just discovered this. Not usually keen on latin music in English but this is good.

Hey I have the Lagrimas Negras CD by Bebo Valdés / Dieguito El Cigala but haven't played it for a while. Will put it in the car. Never associated it with Tango though.

I prefer to listen to the words. - if sung with power. There are a lot of wishy washy versions.

Oh this poncey ChaCha dance is what I don't like about watching a lot of ballroom dancing. All that mincing about by the bloke puts me right off the genre.

I like the Grace Jones link. And good to see some updated links for Caminito. I've just realised that the majority of my CDs are 1930s to 50s. Guess I'd better get up to date.

Can't advise on men's shoes I'm afraid. I'd have thought they'd pass muster though.

My tango teacher used to translate some of the words to the songs as we danced. Sorry but sometimes I had to laugh. Often so melodramatic.

Thanks. Never heard of them. Are these more ballroom / bandstand tango than street AT? Not really my style of AT music. I prefer something gutsy rather than sweet.

Is it just me that instantly gets an image in my head when i hear an AT track. It doesn't happen all the time but if it does happen it is very powerful. Often they are images of places I have never even been. For example

Vaya Con dios - Paris
Jalousie - 1930's Warsaw Ghettos
Oblivion - A park somewhere (maybe New York) and its raining.

Is it time for my medicine?
