Has anyone seen this movie before? Someone was talking about this movie in work early. Never seen it? Is it any good?
I heard Robert De Niro is in the movie? WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS on it?
Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange and a young Juliette Lewis are all very good - De Niro gives one of his biggest performances, I'd call it OTT but that's not really fair.
Some very tense scenes (the teddy bear!) and a suitably overblown climax - it's not subtle but it's gripping.
One of my favourite LOL moments in cinema history is when the house-maid turns round and it's De Niro in drag.
As you say, entertaining enough, but massively over-rated.
Oddly, this ridiculous sequence reminded me of a not dissimilar scene in the old Basil Rathbone/ Nigel Bruce Sherlock Holmes film The Scarlet Claw which was chilling indeed.
One of the few remakes that is better than the original in my opinion. It's does however have a seriously flawed ending - it just goes too OTT. It's kind of like the filmmakers bottled out of doing a proper ending.
De Niro is terrifying as Max Cady. i love the moral ambiguities of this film. Been a while since I have seen it on UK TV.
The original has its moments, but the remake has a slightly more subversive edge, what with all the characters having flaws.

A remake which almost equals the original.

I'm all for directors trying something different, but this was pure conceit. De Palma could've knocked out a better Cape Fear in his sleep.
