After viewing the My Channel page on youtube a box pops up saying this is how you will now appear and shows your full name against the icon .
Then when you click the opt out button a list of why not reasons . What's it got to do with them anyway ?.

I've a feeling there's going to be quite a few 'John Smiths' about
But seriously, I agree it's quite disgusting the likes of YouTube (or anything Google owns), Facebook etc.. want you to disclose anything and everything.
'Disgusting'? Seems a bit extreme...if you don't like it don't use the site
I would have thought the poor commenting was due to poor moderation.
Just look and Facebook and Twitter where the law has actually done things about people who post and say antisocial things whether they are saying stupid stuff about blowing up a plane or crude sexual jokes about missing children.
Free speech is a privilege but really just because you can say doesn't mean you should.
Can you imagine trying to moderate a site like YouTube though? And surely poor commenting comes from poor users
You don't have to use your real name with Facebook, i know a few people on there that don't have their real names.
and then ask you why, up to me surly?
Yeah, but can your average user of the site see my IP address, or my ISP account from these things to see my real name? I don't think so.
I doubt these people enter competitions and how can facebook prove it is not their names?
I have changed mine a couple of times, ok not lately I must admit, but I have used variations of my names in the past
I post videos of the foxes and badgers in my garden, so why would I want people to know my name when I do that?
You, Mr CoolboyA, if that is your real name, are quite different it seems! Your Twitter link gives your first name away and your most recent uploaded pic on Twitter seems to give your full name away (along with your horrible taste in TV programming!)
So I opened up my google profile and found this
I recently gave a (much-appreciated I'm sure ) review of something I bought on M&S and before signing up for it they tell you not to use your real name (or your name as it appears in your online account). It's a clear instruction at the initial log-in but I can't navigate back to that page, here though it's a clear recommendation:
i don't have a google profile, I got a google account, but not a profile.
As of yet I have not been badgered about google+, which is a shock.
