Ringtone download issue

Been ages since I downloaded a ringtone...WTF?
What happened to the good old days when you could download them straight to your phone?
I am trying to get the Despicable me 2 'bee do' ringtone for the Galaxy note GT N700...I can download it, but cannot set it as a ringtone. I have downloaded it from the google play store, but when I select ringtones on the phone, it does not appear. Went to the music files option, not there. Even asks me to download Ringdroid to convert it, but it is not clear how to actually convert it.
Plus I am getting fed up of being asked to add various bits of software, new search engines and virus software when trying to download the ringtone.
One of the early attempts gave me a text option, so I sent a as requested but got nothing back.
Why on earth has something that used to be so simple become so complicated?
