Is Cilla Black the most unpleasant person in showbiz?

Does anyone have anything good to say about Ms Black? There are several threads on DS asking about the rudest celebrities people have ever met and Cilla's name comes up more than anyone else and none of it is positive, in fact she sounds thoroughly vile and unpleasant. I'd love to know what her problem is? And it's not like she's anything special either, very plain when she was younger and a voice that sounds like a cat being strangled.
I always remember my mum refusing to watch Blind Date or Surprise Surprise because she disliked Cilla so much, guess she was right about her all along eh?

Are you sure you're in the right place?
Cilla is well-loved, here on DS. Quite an icon, in fact!;)................
....Erm, well-loved as in 'the name that always crops up first when vile celebs is the topic du jour'...:p
Personally, I can't stand her. Never could.

Pray tell.
That I can well believe. Usually people who were nice to start with will remain nice after they become famous.
This article just shows this nasty woman for the person she really is
Never seen that before, but she sounds deluded and up he own behind. I know all celebs will have good days and bad days but it sounds like Cilla only has bad days. What I find unforgivable are the stories of her refusing to talk to staff in shops and getting her PA to speak on her behalf, or her refusal to talk to to work men doing work on her home. Seriously, who the **** does she think she is?
Had she been born 50 years later, Black’s girl-next-door looks and chirpy charm would have been more likely to turn her into a cheesy reality star than someone who rubbed shoulders with the coolest names in music and, with this in mind, it’s a relief that Black isn’t a snob about talent shows – in fact, she loves them. “I’d be first in the queue for X Factor now, oh yeah!” she says. “That is totally my personality – and I would have won it as well.”
At the top of the list for rudest cowbag ever born..... was Cilla. No one had a decent word to say about her. The most obnoxious full of herself rude bint anyone had ever come across.
She really became famous through her connections though and not so much her talent (even though she had a decent enough voice in the 60s). She knew The Beatles and it was they who introduced her to Brian Epstein and persuaded him to sign her.....without that connection, it's highly unlikely she would ever have become famous.
I heard that Paul hate her and hasn't spoken to her for years.
On the other hand, June Brown helped with their charity work and was absolutely fabulous.
You can usually judge a person by the company they keep - so as much as I think I'd like Paul O'Grady in person - I have the feeling that he'd be a MASSIVE disappointment in real life - as 'Cilla' is one of his best mates.
I never cared much for Paul McCartney until I saw your post! He's gone up a thousand-fold (if its true).
It's a very good point. Anyone who has horrible close friends is invariably a horrible person themselves (otherwise they would be repulsed by the behaviour of their mates and would want nothing to do with them).
Interestingly it was John Lennon who introduced Cilla to Epstein and persuaded him to sign her, and not McCartney.
