    Yes indeedy

I believe it's recommended so that your line is active and the speeds are regulated and not all over the show.

However, with my Sky Broadband router, it does need a kick up the ass and a quick reboot every now and then.

There is another couple of threads on this subject today also

Ah, started by the OP also

Now I might be wrong, but by other posts the op might get a little ratty.
As he has asked a question and not for opinions :D:eek:

Ah yes, I spotted that also. I have no axe to grind and didn't spot that it was SA that created more than one thread and can't be bothered seding the links if it's the same guy ;)

All I would say is that many forums, websites do state that you shouldn't really disconnect your router every day unless it needs a reset. Two main reasons:-

    1. Stability - with it constantly connected to the phone line and the network it's been proven that the upload/download speeds remain constant and that you get the best possible speed from your router - all depending on how far from the exchange

    2. Prolongs life - we all know powering off, back on can shorten the life on internal components. There has been many a heated debate on here and other forums that I won't mention. People have mixed feelings about this. I leave my tv, Sky HD box, dvd recorder, amp, cd player and minidisc player in the front room all on standby and all have that lovely red glow going on.

I'm not going to waffle on about saving the environment etc, as it gets boring. Everyone is different, and I do my best to help the cause outside of leaving some electrical equipment in standby, but don't think this is what System Addict had in mind with his original post.

    Cheers, Tony

Yes, but turn it off if I'm out of the house for prolonged periods (i.e. on holiday).

No, turn it off overnight if it's not in use, but that's because it's in my bedroom and it makes an electrical buzzing noise that's annoying on a night.

Actually I can't be bothered to tell you because apparently you don't like my opinion.

Yes, like Dino if I go away on holiday or something, so know it's not going to be used for a week or two I turn it off. Other than that, never.

Seconded - to be honest that's a sensible option for safety reasons and do the same with pretty much anything else apart from the fridge/freezer and lights on timers, pretty much everything else is switched off at the wall whilst away, but that's common sense to most so in complete agreement.
