Sophie introduces and sings on her really welsh christmas Show. Up for 5 days and shown again BBC2 Wales monday 24th BC2 Wales (sky 971) 2030. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01pd745
Shes about to start a tour singing in Treorchy, Birmingham, Nottingham, Cardiff and for two nights (26/27th) at the Pheasantry London - between 7 feb and 28 feb http://www.sophieevansofficial.com/shows/
Sophie's finished her series of concerts/cabarets. Looking very different, and sophisticated . In the set she was singing a really good little Mermaid and has joined the people singing from Wicked in their cabarets.
She's done a cover of Save The World which has done well and been picked up and shown on BBC Wales. Shows off her new look too.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdybl1O-96Y
You get the impression that Sophie will never be back in musical theatre. I'm sure she thinks of herself as a singer more than a stage performer. Nothing wrong with that.
You get the impression that Sophie will never be back in musical theatre. I'm sure she thinks of herself as a singer more than a stage performer. Nothing wrong with that.
There's very little to do at the moment though. More plays, smaller casts, more male leads, more imported leads, more names rather than talent, more shows needing dancers... and Viva Forever....There's only Lauren, Keisha, and Sarah and Danielle of the girls from the shows actually in a musical at the moment I think. Its a bit of a metaphor for the country as a whole - how not to use your available talent.
There's a lot of people doing other things. Some are trying for TV, some doing films - major or short, some are doing plays - Helena's just done one in between musicals, Nancy Sullivan is doing one soon. Amy is on the Australasia tour with the National Theatre, Jessie is playing in a Shakespeare at the Globe for her first job back. Some are working on EPs/albums.....
Sophie seems to be doing a wide range from radio, to TV specials, to cabarets/concerts and a film. She also seems to be in demand for welsh events and shows - she's been singing at the international rugby, and football as well as working with the welsh tV channels - its a good niche to have and she's gaining experience. She's been doing quite a few of the same things as Jessie did.
Hopefully she will go for and get another leading role at some point soon - if anyone puts on something that provides one. She sang some Disney, and from Wicked in her cabaret set, and did both really well. What they all really need are some more major singing/acting roles to replace those that have gone in the last couple of years, and some new ones for young female singers - like Dorothy or Eponine - not least because they need to produce some older singers for the older roles later on.
Sophie is doing the Welsh final night of the proms show with John Owen Jones - its got a musicals theme and he's a good person to work with. She's on with the trumpet player who is currently in Gabriel with Jessie at The Globe. Small world.
Sophie is in Under Milk Wood by Dylan thomas - BBC 1 Wales with a host of Welsh singers and actors from Tom Jones, Katherine Jenkins, and Charlotte Church to Griff Rhys Jones and Sian Phillips. 5 May 1900-2000 - sky 952,
Pride is up and running and may develop into a musical . Sophie has a dance scene as the local pub barmaid - someone else gets to sing the only song as she dances - which was a bit odd. .
Sophie is about to fly off toJapan - where she's performing with John Own Jones and Paul Potts. She's now international concert performing Dot.
She's been singing in all sorts of places - from in Park Lane, with John Owen Jones, to locally.
There's a youtube of her singing with John Owen Jones in Japan - she couldn't have a better top singer to duet with. This one is For Good from Wicked - Sophie Is Glinda.
She's been on BBC Radio Wales and sung some songs - starts at 41-50 in John Owen Jones is there too - fascinating on John Owen Jones's singing training , and how Sophie discovered Japanese jetlag. They sing from Frozen together and there's Let it Go at the end. .........and Sophie has a couple of songs on her own. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04vj7qd
