"Location Earth! Lifeforms detected! Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate!"
I genuinely had no idea that they were coming out of that sphere...
There are some classic Dalek stories on Netflix at the mo
So I'd have to vote on the new series again, and the episodes I'd vote for would be Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways. Series 1 did the Daleks brilliantly. They were menacing, actually scary, and this story really captured that. That moment when they descend to Floor 0 just to murder everyone down there... Also their insanity in this story - being grown from human cells and worshipping the Emperor as God. Brilliant.
Doomsday was also brilliant, but as Whovian1109 says, for reasons other than the Daleks themselves. They make the episode, sure, but it's their fights with the Cybermen, and of course Rose's exit (which I don't seem to find as sad as everyone else... Amy's on the other hand ...) that make the episode great.
Dalek was also an amazing episode, and a brilliant introduction of the Daleks to the new series. The cold, calculating, single Dalek slowly but surely making its way through everyone trying to stop it... it's unstoppable, and the sprinkler scene followed by the silence afterwards is shocking (in a good way).
Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks is a good story, but not as good as the ones that came before it... and I was gutted with what they did to Dalek Sec when it first aired. The pig slaves were... interesting. Why did they have to be pigs exactly (and how)?
The Stolen Earth/Journey's End starts off well. The Daleks are quite scary again, mainly when they're on Earth (the moment when they blast an entire house with "maximum extermination", for example). Davros' return was unexpected and welcome. However, by the end of Journey's End the episode was clearly about the Doctor being with all his previous companions than anything, and any menace that the Daleks had kind of went bye-bye when they were reduced to spinning around shouting "Help me!" It was funny though, I'll give them that. Also the reality bomb seemed just a tad over the top, but hey.
Victory of the Daleks gets more hate than it deserves if you ask me. The story is actually ok, I think the main thing that causes the hate (other than Power Ranger Daleks) is that it was a bit underwhelming for a Dalek episode, and to be honest they didn't seem very menacing at all. However, it was a necessary episode for the chronology of the Daleks and the series, and that is what I think some people forget. The Daleks are again down to single figured numbers out of their entire speicies. They have to find a way to survive again, and they do. Plus for the first time since the new series began, they "win" if you like. They get away from the Doctor, and his reaction really shows the rage and... desperation, I guess that results from this. He's let them get away, and now hundreds, maybe thousands of civilisations (the whole universe really) are in danger because of it. A testament to Matt Smith's acting, especially this early on in his first series. And it takes Amy Pond again to help him see that hey, it's not a total defeat, we still saved the world. Basically, not the best Dalek episode, but a necessary one.
Finally, Asylum of the Daleks was a brilliant episode visually, and it had a good story. Oswin was unexpected and great, and the Daleks were somewhat scary too. I didn't find them as scary as we were maybe meant to, though the scene where The Doctor is backed against a locked door with Daleks heading for him is quite effective. I didn't find it the best Dalek episode though, or the best episode of series 7 as others seem to think. It was good, and was a great return for the Daleks following Victory, but I'd probably put it about 3rd or 4th on my list.
Plus the exchange between the Doctor and Davros, we need more Davros I reckon.
Even though its not a Dalek episode....The Big Bang was also sublimely effective with the Stone Dalek.
