Since its the 50th anniversary & RadioTimes is running polls for the best monster & companion, I thought I'd put it out there -what do you think was the best series or season (can be, with best stories, the most consistent or just the one you liked the most)?
I (think) I have mine, I just want to see if others have similar opinions, particularly around classic Who..

Might not be the 'best'...but Season 19 will always be particularly special as it turned me into a fan, so going with that. Today.
I haven't seen S16 (Keys of Time) when I was growing up, & because it isn't cheap to buy, is one of the few missing from my classic collection. Might have to get it although it doesn't look like there are any great stories from what I've heard.
Although WoF & EotW certainly might help, it's a shame we haven't got a little more from season 5 , as this, the "monster season" could be right up there too.
As said above, hopefully season 5 will be a favorite soon.
Out of New Who, I would say Series 1, 3, 4, 5 and 7A. again because most stories are personal favorites.
If I had to pick one season, I would have to say Season 7.
Excellent start to the Jon Pertwee era, Spearhead from Space, The Silurians, The Ambassadors of Death and Inferno are all just brilliant stories IMO,
with Ambassadors being my favorite. When the DVD came out, I watched it all in one sitting because it was so tense and gripping. Excellent story.
True that -JNT has got quite a bit of abuse from fans for what he did to the show, but (probably with the guiding hand of Barry Letts), seasons 18, 19 & 21 were very consistent seasons & there were some good stories there
But there have been some series where you get a good run of stories through most of the season/series so from the classic series i love
Season 16 ( The Key to Time season- Barring The Pirate Planet for the Captain)
Season 18 (Full Circle - to Logopolis except for Warriors Gate)
Season 19 ( Davison's first and I became a super fan- Not sure about Time Flight)
Season 26 ( McCoy's last - not Battlefield though)
New series 3 ( Human Nature to Sound of Drums)
& 4 ( Unicorn and the Wasp to the Stolen earth)
Those 4 stories are interesting.
Also love Tom Baker with Sarah and Peter Davison with Adric / Tegan / Nissa.
I think its mostly the cast that make the series best and which characters jell well together with the doctor at that time.
season 3 (1965-6)
season 1 (1963-4)
season 2 (1964-5)
Also I have to give an honary mention to the "Five Faces Of Doctor Who" season which aired on BBC 2 in November/December of 1981. It was the first time that many of us got to see adventures featuring the previous Doctors. To this day,I still love the Krotons!:)
If I were limited to New Who it would be hard to choose between Series 4 and 5. Best periods for Tennant and Smith respectively, Tennant because he had found his best companion and Smith because the series had just the right amount of story arc and the 'dark fairy tale' atmosphere suited his Doctor so well.
Pertwee's first season, Troughton's second season, 'The Baker / Hinchcliffe / Holmes period, The Key to Time' Season and Matt Smith's first season are all particularly strong.
I would go along with this
Obviously nothing from 2005 - 2013.
Snap! Flippin' heck! And aside from Season 7, I've always adored Pertwee's 'Carnival of Monsters' for similar reasons.
Respect to Ian K Mc's choices too. Always a bit miffed when it's opined that the Second Doctor was really the template for what followed. Certainly by the end of his first year, Hartnell is absolutely the character we know and love, albeit a bit frailer for obvious reasons. Certainly by Dalek Invasion../The Rescue he's absolutely adorable, albeit with the edge that was there with most Doctors. The first Doctor rocks! (Mind, so does the Second.)
This! The First Doctor contains all the others in miniature.
the story keeps progressing and never stalls despite 12 episodes. b&w actually helps. the ridiculously cheap sets (tardis interiors made from bubblewrap) actually set a "style"
..... and troughton is superb of course, he uses all his dr who tricks and mannerisms ..... not to mention phillip madoc a fine actor who did quite a lot of dr who .....
..... then we got tom baker with his constant knowing wink at the camera. oh dear .....
agreed. occasionally an interesting story but mostly relies on gimmicks.
Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper are magic, and I don't think there's one weak story in there, The Long Game is the only noticeable drop in quality but it's still pretty good. I honestly don't think anything before or since can hold a candle to it. There's a reason it's the only series to have won a 'best drama series' BAFTA.
