For some reason Microsoft didn't seem to issue any updates on Sunday, I wonder why? They usually issue them every day.
I wonder why? Anybody else noticed this?
Malwarebytes & Superantispyware both updated OK.
Very odd.

The latest virus definition version is: 1.143.415.0 | Released: Jan 21, 2013 01:02 AM UTC
Just tried again and still nothing.
Maybe my PC is pointed at a server that hasn't updated...
Just scanned with malwarebytes, nothing found and now Superantispyware. Both of those updated with no problem.
Looks like MSE gets different update files than Windows Defender (Win8's MSE) as I've not had one labelled 1.143.378.0
now showing 1.143.429.0 for 21/01/2013 created 03:27
I have XP and cannot get anything other than 1.143.376.0
I will check my XP machine later.
This is strange, normally MSE gets between 3 and 6 update a day.
What are Microsoft doing....?
It's not my main machine and in any case there are 15 months to go until April 2014 when XP support ends.
I'm still having to download MSE updates from the Microsoft website, MSE won't download it.
Why give up using (probably) the best Windows OS just because it's 12 years old ?
Mine updated to 1.143.422.0 this morning so it does look like it's OS associated.
Having Googled "MSE update failed" I found a current thread on Microsoft Community forum and there are a lot of people with this problem, the answer to which is :
"For those who prefer not to read this entire lengthy discussion, Microsoft has been made aware of the issue which appears to be affecting all MSE and possible Defender on Windows 7 and prior for updates since the 19th of January. I expect that it will be fixed soon. If MSE is not alerting you, you don't need to do anything. If MSE is alerting that it is out of date and a search for updates does not yield an error, but also does not bring down any updates, you can manually update from here:
https://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/default.aspx
Don't do this on dial-up as it is the full definitions and engine file"
Did we just travel back to the 90's?
http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2012/05/21/dialup-internet-canada.html
Also in 2010 :
"One-third of the country (or 93 million Americans) don't have high-speed internet access at home, according to a new consumer survey released Tuesday (Feb. 23) by the Federal Communications Commission."
So for the benefit of our North American friends it's probably why Microsoft advised not to use dial up.
Thank you I did a search on Sunday but couldn't find anything. There were a lot of updates in January so it looks like they have changed something and not tested it fully before release.

So it looks as though it has been fixed, but I wonder what happened.?
Same here....so it's not OS-related.
