Scream The TV Show is greenlit
:rolleyes:really guess which network is doing it MTV
After the imo kinda lame scream 4 the franchise is still veering off into the very very wrong direction

A tv show based on Scream would be best suited to the cable channels where they can do whatever they want
So having it on mtv just makes it 10 times worse

If it had been on a cable network i might have some enthusiasm for this, but MTV will just censor out all of the violence/swearing to appease the FCC like they did with the awful neutered US versions of Skins and The Inbetweeners.
I can't imagine this would fit on HBO, but Showtime could have been a decent home for it, i'd even be okay with AMC or FX, but not MTV...My interest is zero, and i say that as a fan of the movies, particularly the first one which i consider a modern horror classic.
Im a big fan too a dark and twisted scream5 is what we should have gotten not like 4 when someone is stabbed and they make a little joke "oh you cant kill me im gay "
"F##k bruce willis" just awfull i can see mtv scream doing more of this.
wes craven is rumoured to be directing the pilot but honestly craven has not done anything interesting lately im sad to say so its not totally suprising

I quite liked Scream 4, it was better than Scream 3, but even if they were aiming for Scream 4 quality with this TV show they still wouldn't be able to pull it off because MTV just wont allow anything too violent or sweary.
It'll be cancelled fairly quickly i would imagine, i really don't understand the thinking in even attempting this show right now, i mean the old fans will write it off because it's likely to be tamed down for the kiddies, while today's audience clearly doesn't seem bothered about the Scream films as is evidenced by the fact that Scream 4 bombed. They'd do better to just leave the franchise for another ten years and then attempt Scream 5, there might be an appetite for it by then. Right now it just seems like bandwagon jumping given the relative successes of The Following, Bates Motel and Hannibal.
I think your right because these rumours surfaced like 2 years ago i think but its now being fasttracked because of the recent movie 2 tv shows based on killers
It needs to be dark and humorous at the same time. I think it would of been better suited on FX or HBO.
A Cable channel Like AMC would be far better suited, MTV wont be able to show the violence Scream has, what are they going to to do if they cant have gore or violence? Make a Jersey Shore show gone mad?
I would much prefer Wes making Scream 5, yeah Scream 4 did not do aswell as expected but it still smashed its budget and many fans would like to see another movie.
It would never work as a TV show its a Move franchise... KEEP IT a movie franchise.
I would rather see a whole re-boot of Scream then have MTV have there hands on it.
That seems a little unreasonable. The Scream films weren't ever actually that violent, I think they'd get 15s these days (aside from Scream 4, which got a 15 at the time of release). And actually they may even be able to exceed the violence of the first Scream (which nearly got an NC-17 in the US).
As for the swearing, the producers may decide to bleep it and go uncut later, or they may just decide to not swear. Does it really matter if anybody swears or not?
And I fail to see why it won't work on TV. Even Wes Craven he'd be willing to direct an episode if the idea was good enough, so clearly he doesn't have a problem with it being a TV show. And Kevin Williamson has moved onto TV, so I doubt he cares...
Wes will properly direct the Pilot thats it. Unless MTV paid him big money to stay on.
The feedback for Scream going into a TV series has not been good a majority of people hate the idea, and its mainly because MTV will be behind it.
I fail to see why MTV is an issue, it's a co-production with Dimension, the people who distributed the original films.
And it's not like they could get away with much more violence or swearing elsewhere. Maybe they could say "shit", which might or might not be able to do on MTV, but I can't really see why that makes a difference.
Maybe they could get away with a bit more violence on FX or AMC, but graphic violence on it's own does not make a good show.
I'm with Wes Craven, if they have a good idea the show could be very good, if they don't have good idea it will suck. I don't think it should be written off, purely on the basis of the network, until we've seen it...
I am curious as to why Kevin Williamson isn't involved (or they aren't trying to get him involved), presumably he said no or there are contractual difficulties...
He's presumably busy with The Following considering that he's the showrunner on that show and it was renewed for a second season a few months ago.
Also does no one else remember Harper's Island from a few years back (shown in UK on BBC Three). This has already been done on US tv and seemingly wasn't sucessful enough to warrant another series. I suppose the thinking being once you've done a whodunnit slasher tv series, what can say in years 2,3,4 etc.
