    Kardoctor

Where would you get your free advice with you escort that's missing on number 3 pot if you're not technically competent?
I'm on a number of car forums if you know nothing about cars, you're gonna have to do some reading and research to follow the advice you're given.

I've told people who aren't competent under the bonnet to go to garages before and told them what tests the garage should carry out and what results they should/shouldn't get.

Even the AA have a tech support department at HQ for the techs in the vans to call up, sometime they phone other techs for advice too.

Some people are very stupid i.e. think cars don't need servicing for 50k, drove the car until the engine seized due to lack of oil in that case.

I can say that Duncan knows jack about cars, doesn't even know the variables involved.
Then again Kardoctor chaps advice to female dragon was useless.

I knew what it was :p It gives the impression they have had that many requests (for help and advice) which is a bit misleading.
Well I didn't find it misleading, as it was small, and at the bottom of the webpage in the sort of position where you might expect to find a page counter. Now, had it been in a more prominent position, or had formed part of the main page banners, it would have been a different stoty.

When the Kardoctor guy walked out in front of the dragons for the first time his body language was screaming out "I've got no confidence...I am a loser...If you say we are all out before I start my presentation then I will slink silently away".

Interesting to note on the lorry washing web site that the boss states that he has got a loan from the bank and ditched the dragons!

There are several sites under construction and thanks to the Free Wash Demonstrations carried out at Stafford, we have customers waiting in the wings ready to use the Wash Stations as they open.

As a result of this massive interest in the business I met with the bank and have agreed to take up their offer of a business load which enables me to retain full ownership of the company.

This decision was not intended to reflect badly on the Theo and Deborah. I have the utmost respect for them both, but because we have a Wash Station already open which is out stripping my expectations, I feel that I would like to make a go of opening the rest of the sites myself.

I have been in business for 10 years and on reflection away from the bright lights of the studio, I feel that to relinquish 40% of an immerging strong business format would be difficult to swallow.

It is nice to see someone tell the greedy dragons where to go . had they taken say 10% each then they could well stilll have a finger in his pie, but greed has played its part and been thier downfall.

First man up.........................total shite idea! Ring a guy up to tell you what a garage tells you!

A computer is possible to sort out over the phone, but a car has a million variables.

If you have a McLaren F1 you can hook the car up to your computer and the guy at the other end in the swanky McLaren office can tell you exactly what the problem is

Great episode this week only just got round to watching it. The truck wash bloke did very well and I'm glad to hear he got the money from the bank instead of the greedy Dragons

The car doc bloke really should've done his home work but as others have pointed out there are loads of places you can get free advice on the web. Don't you just love Google and DS

I don't blame the picnic bag lady for saying no to the deal. Even though she didn't seem to have much of an idea what business and profit was all about, I can understand why she wouldn't want to give a up control of her business being as she said she had other ideas in the pipeline. 50% maybe but it just sounded like Deborah just wanted to take over then eventually write her a big cheque and send her on her way

Just watched it again had a good giggle at the exercise chair again.

Bet Truck wash blokes bank had a bit of a rethink about his loan rate and decided he didn't need to put his house up for the money.

Suspect he began to believe in himself too and thought he didn't really need their help, he might not build the business as quickly on his own but he'll get there.

Oh as for the Dragons being greedy.
The bank will want some sort of security for their money and will happily take his house off him if things don't go well.
They'll also offer buggerall in the way of help or contacts.

If it all goes down the pan the Dragons lose their 200K, dont forget they don't just put up the money they've got access to lots of contacts and 'mates rates' type activity with suppliers.

and I bet the bank only became interested sufficiently when interest & business in the lorry wash had been increased by the prospect of the Dragons Den programme (which was probably filmed some time ago). And as george chick pointed out, the bank will certainly want some major collateral (his house) and will only provide the minimum of business help with no access to "contacts"

I'm not overly fond of banks but I think 40% was a tad too much of a business to give away even if you are getting some of the best business brains on board.

The Dragons have already made their fortunes and Mr Truck having had his own business for years, this is his chance to make his and by giving away 40% of what you've spent years building up it may take him longer to get to the point where he wants to.

Some banks will have some good business brains working for them, nothing like the Dragons but still good enough to advise and help guide Mr Truck to achieve his business ambitions. He may have to put his house up as collateral but if you never take any risks in life you'll never know how much you can achieve

    Hmm thats got me thinking.

I hope he'd ringfenced that deal so the dragons were only getting 40% of the new service station business (if he'd gone for the deal), I certainly would have.

Oh and another thing, this series I've not heard anyone talk about how long and how much it'll take the buy the Dragons portion back off them.
I wouldn't want their hand up my ar$e forever.

Yes 40% was a bit strong, but they're there to make money and make it as quick as possible.

Suspect he's been through the putting his house up thing before to get his existing business going.

I'm sure he would've thrashed out a good deal with the help of his accountant and solicitor. As for buying them out for me it would have to be part of the original deal

I can understand that they want to see a good return on their investment as soon as possible but to hand over 40% of the business you've been building for ten years isn't an easy thing to do

He may not have had to borrow against his house in the past but now obviously to take the business to the level at which things are gonna be more lucrative than ever it maybe has to be done and I hope it works out for him.

I've dabbled in the transport business myself and I can't wait for the day the I get to the stage where I use my house as collateral

I guess being so wealthy, Duncan doesn't have to know about cars though - he'll probably spend all day getting chauffered around in his Bentley or Rolls Royce! :D

He said he had looked into that, but if he'd done this would only get the money - he wouldn't get the experience of Theo or Deborah - and that's what he wanted, which is why I'm marginally surprised by the fact he's now changed his mind! :)

I'm genuinely not sure if they actually brought this to market whether it would sell, or not. I say that as it follows in a line of similar collections, like the "Piggins" and "Kitchen Fairy" ranges, for example! :)

I don't know - Dragons' Den is a completely different (and just as good) show in my opinion. As for The Apprentice, it will depend on whether the BBC and SAS can come to some agreement to make another series. As far as I know, (although this is reported speculation) SAS will not do another one unless the quality of the candidates reverts back to those from series one. :)

The "KarDocktor" idea is a complete joke - and that guy had definitely lost the plot. Nobody will waste their money calling a premium rate number just to be told "get it MOT'd" or "take it to a garage" - or I certainly wouldn't! Like Duncan, I thought the Picnic Bag idea was great - a very useful product.

I actually thought the exercise chair idea was great too, although I could see their reservations, I think it could have a place in the market - not everybody does, wants, or can afford to attend a gym on a frequent basis - and it does offer a good solution to that.

The chair had a lot of a positives, but like the majority of home fitness equipment, I expect it would just be used as a chair before too long. Lastly, I thought the truck wash idea was great - and I hope everything works out for the guy running it. :)
