Hmm, interesting that it has closed completely. I was expecting the 1am-10am part of 5+24's stream to be Marketplace. Now it makes no sense for 5+24 to close down overnight instead of showing whatever they are showing on satellite.

It was owned by Top Up TV, or at least they held the licence for it.

Weren't the Freeview hours announced as 7pm to midnight, with teleshopping from 10am to 7pm? In which case they could move the TVX stream over from 5* and extend 5* past midnight. Probably over-optimistic to expect Channel 5 to extend the hours of 5*, maybe more realistic to assume they would show the teleshopping they carry on other platforms in that timeslot.

Quest +1 sharing from 4am to 10am perhaps or maybe even from midnight to 10am.

Could this finally be the end of Top Up TV owning space on the platform?

Just speculation, only a few more days to wait...

FWIW, C5+24's EPG is showing it as a 24 hour channel from 4th Feb, but broadcasting Teleshopping from 0115 to 1900.

what??? thats a crazy amount of telleshopping on a main channel! it would make more sense to say have telleshopping till say 12pm or 1pm and then run yesterday's schedule from then till 1.15am! The news would need bocking out though as it would be too old to show!

Unless they are planning on launching a Milkshake channel, in which case it makes perfect sense to have the teleshopping there - they then don't have to say "oh, C5+24 won't be available during the day anymore, sorry about that".

Similarly, the EPG for 5*, 5USA and 5 +1 also shows a full 24 hour schedule, even though they aren't available 24/7 on Freeview.

It will be operating as a 24 hour channel on Sky, Freesat and Virgin Media, where it will replace 5* +1.

It will be on Virgin from 7pm until the normal programmes end, at which point teleshopping will continue until 7pm the next day.

The Freeview EPG for Channel 5's group of channels isn't adjusted for when the channels are off-air. The original information for the channel stated that it would be off-air from midnight to 10am on Freeview. Until we actually see the channel continuing past midnight on Freeview we don't know whether the original reports where correct or not.

Unfortunately, when it comes to Channel 5's channels, the EPG can't always be believed. For example, 5* always goes off-air at midnight on Freeview, the EPG shows "Teleshopping".

And to note that shopping channels sometimes operate on short-term carriage contracts. The original information from Channel 5 did state overnight downtime on Freeview, however things do change quickly in the world of smaller channels.

An example: The Jewellery Channel and Connect TV launched an overnight streamed service between 0000-0600 covering the channel's Freeview downtime, just weeks before TJC went 24/7 terrestrially again.

I would not class Teleshopping as something that is worth watching so you cant really count it as a 24 channel

Which isn't really the point. The point is that if the Freeview slot isn't available between midnight and 10am, the final programme will be abruptly cut short at midnight on Freeview but will continue on other platforms.

To be fair, when it comes to Channel 5, nothing would surprise me. I'm just erring on the side of caution with this one. Better to wait and see what happens than to trust the EPG.

Channel 5 +24 on-air on Freeview at 6am. It would appear that the initial reports quoting a 10am start were inaccurate.

Or they were correct when going to press with the information, but circumstances have changed.

Former Marketplace capacity is being used by Channel 5 +24 for those who don't understand the connection.

Nevertheless, the original reports didn't reflect the current circumstances.

It's also worth pointing out that Channel 5 +24 is a VERY different channel on Virgin Media. Although there are teleshopping strands on VM between 1300-1600, and between sometime after 0100 to 1000, the rest of the daytime schedule is filled with repeats from the previous day. Much of the teleshopping appears to be exclusive to Freeview. The Freeview version is more suitable as a replacement for Marketplace than a timeshift of Channel 5. ;-)

The daytime schedule on VM has multiple repeats of Neighbours, Home and Away and various documentaries from the previous day, presumably Channel 5 hasn't acquired the rights to repeat these on DTT.
