New Tricks is one of my favorite shows here in the U.S. along with alot of other british shows. I've seen all the past seasons/episodes. I read awhile back that its been renewed for a couple more seasons, and that James Bolam is leaving the show which is too bad because the 4 of them make a great team. I'm assuming the new season is currently filming & i was wondering if any new episodes been shown on tv in the U.K. yet? Its shown on friday nights here on one of the public broadcasting stations but I've seen all the episodes they show. I've also watched alot of the episodes online & hopefully the new seasons episodes will show up in the near future on these online tv sites. THANX for your time/reply anyone.

The repeats on Friday in UK are from Series 7.
I hope James B does do one last ep to explain Jack's leaving -after so long playing such an integral part of the team it would be a shame if he just disappeared.
In the UK they finish filming a complete "season" of any drama series (apart from soaps) before they start showing it.
This is true. The extras on the Series 7 DVD set show outtakes from various episodes and you can see the dates (on the clappeboard or whatever it's called) that they were filming them.
One showed December 2009 and another May 2010 - which presumably wasn't far from finishing the filming. And that series was shown from September 10, 2010.
The last episode of Series 8 was shown on September 5 2011. I hope the gap before the new series starting is the same as the gap before the last one started - 9 months - and not any longer than that.
Incredibly formal - Mr Waterman and Ms Redman!
No mention of Denis Lawson either.
Denis Lawson was Wedge Antilles in the original Star Wars trilogy. He's a Scottish actor who mostly works on the stage and on British TV and I think I'm remembering rightly that he is Ewan Mcgregor's uncle. Hope that helps!
I'm going to miss James Bolam and Denis has big shoes to step into. I hope Jack doesn't just vanish and I'm really worried that this won't work once the original team is broken up, Sandra so often turns to Jack for help and advice in a way that she never does with Gerry or Brian. I've also just seen a few episodes where Jack went missing for a while after the guy who killed his wife got off. Brian went to pieces at the thought of someone taking Jack's place, I hope they consider this and don't just have Brian accepting the change readily.
One other thing which just struck me. Some of my favourite scenes are between Brian and Esther. But Esther is Susan Jameson aka Mrs James Bolam. I hope that her husband leaving the show doesn't mean that she is going as well. I know it doesn't necessarily follow and I certainly haven't heard anything to that effect but it could happen.
Actually I would have said Sandra was the most replaceable followed by Gerry.
Sue has her own acting career, and she and James were rarely in scenes together so I doubt it'll make any difference that he's left.
Anyway,as everyone knows they're married, I think if Sue was leaving as well it would have been mentioned by now.
You're probably right and I agree it probably would have been mentioned but I just thought with her husband retiring she may fancy following suit.
James isn't retiring! He's done other things since he left New Tricks.
Well after the character that is leaving hers is the next most irritatingly reactionary one... so, yeah, she'd be next in line for me. But really she is the main character, so I don't expect them to replace her. And you can't take away Gerry! He sings dafeemtoon!
But, seriously I like Gerry -- not as much as Alun's(?) character -- but he's 1 of the 2 of the 4 I do like (?!??).
Yes, he was in Hustle, Series 7 Episode 4, as another grifter called Benny.
And his name has only been bandied around on the internet as a possible replacement for James Bolam. As far as I know, no official announcement has been made
The BBC News web site reported on September 20,2011, that Bolam was leaving but the producers hoped to persuade him to make one final appearance in Series 9 to explain the character's departure.
The Radio Times quotes the executive producer of the Production Company, regarding the casting of Denis Lawson. I don't know how genuine that is though.

I don't know how I forgot or missed that one - it must be age-related
Denis has done millions of things!

James missed a couple of episodes in Series 5, of course, and I thought they were just as enjoyable without him.
I'm looking forward to seeing Denis in this. Obviously when the same team of 4 have done 67 episodes over 8 years, it'll be odd for someone else to be added to it but I'm looking forward to it and there's always the other 67 episodes to watch on DVD - or telly reppeats - if you want to see James in it!
He hasn't done that for years! I think since the Ricky Hanson storyline ended in series 6 they stopped having him talking to Mary.
