Greys Anatomy returns tonight, so I thought I'd start a new thread! Please keep at US pace and avoid posting spoilers, unless they are in tags!
Looking forward to the new season, though not sure if I'll enjoy it quite so much following Lexie's death in the last episode. (Still )
Show starts tonight at around 1am UK time.

Arizona:
Tried to re-watch it all before the premiere tonight but only managed to get on the first ep of Season 6.
Hope it's not too sad and they give Lexie a good send off. Will definitely miss her the most!
I really didn't see it all coming, I tried to stay away from articles about which actors had left
I'm gonna go to bed & cry now
I sense some dark days ahead for the Grey's characters
I do say I was shocked about Arizona! Of course it was implied early in the episode she was gone - of some sort - and to see the missing limbs was a shock! Exciting character development for her but I do worry how much further it can go with her. I hope they don't keep her as a mopey person all season - but I don't see how they can really make her back to 'normal' trait wise.
I suppose they are the main points to this episode but I also found it amusing seeing April on the farms and Avery with some grown out hair.
Anyways, I'm DEVASTATED about Mark, infact, the whole episode felt foreign to me tbh, it didnt feel like Greys Anatomy, the characters were there but they were all different.
I loved Meredith and Baileys new nicknames.
As for Christina and the old guy...LOL!
Was shocked about Arizona's leg, didnt expect that, the way they were all talking it seemed like she was dead, although why cant she get a prosphetic?
I thought something serious would have happened to Arizona, though I didn't think she would die once I realised Mark was going to. I thought it would be either she'd be in a wheelchair or lose a leg, but it was still a shocking reveal in the end. Callie really is going to go through the wringer this season trying to deal with all of this and help Arizona if the latter ever stops blaming her. Plus she's the only one Sofia's really got now as well, so I wonder if at some point Callie's just going to find it all too much and not be able to balance work, Sofia, Arizona and her grief over Mark. Her story's setting up to be one of the most interesting this season I think.
I presume next week we'll see Callie having to make the decision to break her promise in order to save Arizona's life, so I don't think she can really be blamed for that, but obviously Arizona's reaction is totally plausible as well, and she'll need a lot of time and support to get back to as normal a life as possible. I found it a tad unbelievable that she wouldn't come to say goodbye to Mark though, even though she's clearly deeply depressed.
Cristina must leave Mayo sooner or later, she doesn't fit in there at all. Could she not drive across the country if she can't get on a plane? And I wonder why she hasn't talked to Owen at all...I think she still has a lot to deal with as well.
Meredith is clearly going to break down sooner or later over Lexie's death, and with Derek going through Mark's death and the trouble with his hand I'm sure there'll be some struggles ahead for them. Meredith as Medusa is an interesting metaphor...
Owen going to get April was a nice touch, strange that Jackson didn't mention her at all though. I'm glad he's staying and continuing Mark's work. Is his mother supposed to be back this year? Hopefully Alex gets to stay as well and helps push Arizona into coming back - I think he'll play a key role in her recovery, so that he can get her back and get rid of her annoying replacement who fits in as well at Seattle as Cristina does at Mayo...
The new interns added nothing, I found myself not caring about them at all. The Bailey storyline was clearly designed as a bit of light relief but I found it jarring with the general sadness of the episode.
I have to commend the acting though, Sara Ramirez and Patrick Dempsey especially were outstanding in this episode, and I really felt invested in what their characters were going through. Ellen Pompeo was great as well, they were the 3 stand-outs. It was a well-paced episode overall I thought, definitely a well-written tear-jerker!
I hope next week we'll be able to see Lexie's funeral, it doesn't seem like she's had a proper send-off. But then again all the others on the plane will probably be still in hospital, so maybe they'll only do Mark's funeral (which I'm guessing will be likely to happen in episode 3 if they're doing one at all?).
It seems like it's going to be quite a dark season though, so many repercussions to deal with and no-one left unaffected. I hope they give these stories their due though rather than focusing too much on any new interns etc.
I used spoiler tags because it's been less than 24 hours since the episode aired, might as well give people a chance to see it. That, and I hate getting told off for not using spoiler tags so I'm just mega careful!
Arizona could get a prosthetic, Callie implied she has by telling her to get up, but I think the point was that Arizona's in a deep depression and refusing to do anything, not even get out of bed.
I miss the old gang, and with all those characters gone now it feels like there is a void, maybe it'll be better once April and Christina come back but still....I feel like there is a massive, gapping hole.
Please no. I used to like KH, but Izzie's character was ruined with her acrimonious sudden departure.
Plus George is gone so a lot of the good moments of Izzie's character were lost from that point onwards. And I hate what Alex always turns into when Izzie's involved, he's a far better character when she's not around.
Heigl or not, I hope they don't flood the cast with new characters now. Grey's has really struggled to introduce compelling new characters over the last few years. Eric Dane is a huge loss, but his (and Chyler Leigh's) absence will be better filled by giving more to established characters and maybe one or two newbies, instead of flooding the cast with more hit/miss characters.
Though I agree somewhat I still think we should get Izzy back, it could be worked into the storyline, I mean, 3 main characters have just left the show. That leaves 3 big holes for characters to fill, I do hope they dont use the interns because they really werent very interesting, its all stuff we've seen before, maybe Owen could employ Izzy again (obviously she will have completed her residency somewhere else). Or maybe now that Private Practice is ending Addison could return. I just think we need more familiar faces with the huge losses the show has had the past couple of episodes. Because the core cast has dwindled somewhat. And whilst I agree about giving more air time to present characters I still think something is missing, maybe it'll get better....
I knew Arizona hadn't died (was too obvious) so was waiting for the big reveal of what exactly it was stopping her from leaving the house.
I agree with the above poster that it didn't really feel like Greys - felt all a bit odd.
Bring back Izzie, the only one on the show adding some humour recently is Bailey.
Liking Meredith being known as 'Medusa', I think it's an interesting change to her character and something like a plane crash is probably likely to have some sort of effect on your actions.
It seems fairly obvious that Christina will return to Seattle Grace, and thought they went a bit over the top with her not fitting in in Minnesota.
I felt like the only thing missing was more of a send off for Lexie as she was only mentioned in one passing comment, however I do think Marks death was dealt with very well, I really enjoyed all the videos of happier times, and thought the acting by Sara Ramirez and Patrick Dempsey was super and they definitely shone in this episode.
I feel this episode set the season up pretty well and I am looking forward to next week to find out exactly what happened between the plane crash and now.
But the episode was set some time after the crash, so they'd probably already done the send-off for Lexie in terms of funeral etc, it would have been strange for her to be mentioned more, except perhaps in a comment about Mark now being with the woman he loved. I wonder if her funeral will be in next week's episode or if it's not going to be depicted.
Well we're getting that next episode, don't be so impatient! I actually think it created a lot of suspense not knowing what happened - Arizona's fate wasn't revealed until the final scene, which was especially interesting given she was in a bad state at the end of the finale.
i can edit now, so i can post.....
aw......Mark /cry
i had to keep stopping, as cant really burst into tears with the family (boys) around me, but the 'dates' at the end, nearly set me off again
if you dont want to be 'spoiled' dont come on until you are up to date. i think anything that happens in an aired episode should not be spoilered
