It just didnt connect to me either, its probably cause the song has such an indepth raw emotion and meaning behind it which Nicholas didnt project imo ,perhaps cause of his age. I agree with Garys comments about individuality aswell.

but sam B has done the same sort of copycat performances every week and also shown zero individuality but its never mentioned ?
He sang it nicely but a song about gut wrenching heart break and ultimately forgiveness is never going to sound believable from a 16 year old. Not saying Nick needs to stay away from love songs but maybe avoid the major ones. Saying that, Louis was right to pick it for him because it's an easy crowd pleaser and the mums up and down the UK are probably dialling their fingers off for him as we type.
It's a bad song choice for a kid of 16. For heavens sake - how old was he supposed to be when he had the relationship if this ex girlfriend has moved on and is "married now"
I think Louis lives on another planet sometimes, though in his defense it seems to work. Pick a really popular Adele song and it doesn't really matter who sings it. All the praise for Nicholas on here tonight makes me feel as though I've stepped into the Twilight Zone where blandness = artistry

that's as much a reflection of how bad everyone else was
not wanting to sound like Louis but having that sort of vocal control at his age is pretty impressive imo , and as he matures and gets more life experience it should show up in his performance
I think he is the purest vocalist in the competition but he just has no real identity music wise so comes across a bit bland

He actually has a very good voice and I'm impressed with his tuning.
But he's no solo star and is really boyband material (he looks very small and young for his age and doesn't have the 'pretty boy' looks of a Bieber).

agreed , just think its a little hypocritical when some people say we should forgive tamera her vocal weakness because she has the right image and her vocals might improve over time but don't give Nicholas the same benefit of the doubt that as he matures it should be reflected in his performances whereas he already has the vocals imo

Heaven forbid he turns into Bieber. He's kinda cute in an unconventional way but seems pretty grounded, unlike the utterly ghastly Bieber whom I despise

My point would be I don't know who he would appeal to post XF. He doesn't really have the looks to appeal to teenage girls as a pop idol or a distinct enough voice to be a credible chart performer. His best bet would be if they lumped him into a boyband.

To be honest, he is very forgettable and I'm not sure whether a boyband will suit him either...probably is his best bet though. As a solo artist, no chance...no charisma at all
They made a big thing on his VT and ( I think) in the judges critique that the song was his choice and playing the guitar was his choice. So much so that at the time it left me thinking that Sam may think that both were his choices but actually they were really the production teams choices. What I mean by that is that I guess every week the acts come up with their own ideas but if its a crazy one and the act is one they want to keep they are talked out of it whereas the same idea from an act they want to go will be allowed to go ahead. All the talk of this being Sams idea is just setting him up for the fall and removing any responsibility or blame fom his mentor. Call me an old cynic but I think that's what happened.

It's definitely you.
Inappropriate and bereft of subject knowledge
yep that sums up your OP fairly well

Rubbish
Sam b emotes the lyrics
Nick reads autocue
remotes
if you meant to say "emotes" then I might not disagree , but that's not what the comment about individuality actually means
its about whether their performances are just straight copies of previous versions of the song or not
One could argue that someone that age would not know what true heartbreak was either.
23 in fact, so she was definitely a few years older.
