One of the extra boxes they gave without charge is in cupboard, we don't watch hardly any of the tv channels but the kids will lose a couple of the ones if we downgraded. Any advice or am I getting such a good deal that there is no scope to change?
We are on a similar package at roughly the same price and have the same note that our £11 loyalty package will be withdrawn at the end of November..
But it won't. If they try, I will cancel as I am well out of contract. I already have 2 Freeview PVRs, one of which has internet access. The TV has too, giving me access to ITV, BBC and channel 4 on demand. Much as I will miss the extra channels (especially HD) and the TiVo functionality, I never had it before and can live without it.
At the moment I can record 7 channels at once (the TV records too in HD), so losing 3 is not a real hardship.
With the savings I could afford to rent a couple of films every month and stil have extra weight in my back pocket.
I have just moved back home after being at uni for 4 years and started sorting our terrible internet connection out because my parents ain't got a clue. Turns out our ancient Docsis 1 modem is to blame and they are now sending out a docsis 3 superhub.
Anyways looking at their bill they are paying
£57.89 for
XL Phone
V+ HD box
Broadband (L) 10mb
XL TV
(This is with a £11 loyalty discount too)
Already changed to paperless billing, £1.75 easily saved. They rarely watch channels outside of what would be the Medium package and don't really use the phone.
What would be best to ring up to get the best deal retentions or customer service? Really all we need is medium TV, lowest phone package and I would like to push through to 60mb internet. Looking at deals for new customers this would cost about £42.50. Do you think its worth pushing through to see if they would offer a better deal?
It transpires that the price of £95.24 I was offered is impossible! Now paying £100.15 for everything as it was (should be £110.24).
Still a bit of a saving though. I'll need to call VM to get something off my bill. There are now too many decent offers to entice people over to other providers for them not to offer incentives to stay.
Got it through retentions. Had to play hard ball though. Set out what I wanted and asked how much it would cost, he originally just give me the price a new customer would pay and I wasn't having that
Then he offered 30mb and no Tivo for £42. Then I pulled out the long time customer card and Sky/BT name drop. He went away to talk to his manager and came back with that offer.
I have been a long term customer for more years than I can remember.....(was previously Cambridge Cable then NTL). Have never phoned for any deals, but would like a V+ box. Do you think they'll do me any deals? Is it worth phoning. I currently am on:
Package £90.53 for:
Talk International
Talk Unlimited
Broadband M
Caller display and Voicemail (I have 2 telephone lines)
TV XL.
I notice on my last bill - there is a box saying with TV XL I get:
24 HD channels (which I don't) but do have an HD tv
Also says I get favourite Sky shows ready to watch with Sky Anytime - which I don't
Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated

Virgin stopped douing the V+ boxes sometime back, the only recording boxes they have now is the TiVo boxes, phone Retentions and get yourself a good deal
Sky Anytime is available on all Virgin boxes via the On Demand Menus
If you think that your box is past it's sell by date get a Tivo, as these are the only new ones Virgin does apart from the V HD boxes, I do not know what will happen when Liberty will take over Virgin at the end of July

Thank you Joshua! The box I have at the moment is a silver Samsung Vbox. Sorry for being thick but presumably the Tivo would replace this old Samsung. I will take your advice and phone Retentions and let you know how I get on.

If I have worked it out properly for new customers your package would cost £81.99 a month and thats with a tivo box. So defiantly worth ringing up, remember to be a good haggler with them.
When my Mam rang up they originally offered her the deal of the new customers and a £50 installation charge for the tivo box. She said how she has been a customer for near 20 years ect. In the end they ended up knocking £11 off the deal and not charging the £50 installation charge.
The tivo box would replace your old box and you would be able to watch the HD channels and record tv. How fast is your internet currently running at. Worth noting that the slowest they do for new customers is 30mb and they would send you out a new superhub.

Thanks so much for all your help! My Broadband says "up to 20 mb". I haven't phoned them yet, thought I would get as much info together before doing it.

I'll speak to the boss later!

Hi Anap,
Did you phone retentions to cancel to get this deal? How did it come about?
We're on a similar package, although we have one V+HD box and XXL BB for £112 per month. Looking to cut that down a bit.
Cheers,
Bam
