Music INDUSTRY has gone down hill....what has happened to REAL music

What has happened to music?

The structure of songs seems to have completely fallen by the wayside

Take for example 'i get a feeling' or Tulisa's 'were young'

Its literally the same line over and over and over and over and loud beats

Its god awful

What happened to songs you could actually sing along to,

Every track that comes out latley is a confused, writhing mess with no direction and relying on autotune, loud beats and 2 LINES of song

I think you're making the common mistake of equating ALL music with the music that is in the charts

Exactly. If you want to find something good and original in this climate it's going to take more of an investment of your time than turning on the radio or TV. It's out there.

You can't slate the industry if all you're listening to is Xfactor and the likes. There is great music out there you just need to dig a little deeper to find it nowadays.

I think it's just chart music that's bad. There's a lot of great music outside of the charts that's really good. Just look away from Capital FM and the Top 40 and you'll find something decent to listen to.

Asides from the loud beats...many many old pop songs also do that. For example The Beatles "All You Need Is Love" is just that repeated. Then they switch it around. Then they repeat love. That's because they know this = a catchy song.

I am not saying Tulisa is a good as The Beatles. Just that change doesn't always = bad.

You are wrong OP, ,most songs have lots of lyrics and auto tune isn't abused that much. What is real music btw or is it just that the music scene is dominated by genres you just don't like.

I think you might be confusing "real music" with "music that I like". A very common mistake on here.

what makes tulisa's music any less real than the Beatles? sure, it may be terrible but as far as I can hear its still real - its still sound and it can still be heard, therefore is still real music.

If lots of people are buying the chart stuff then the blame, as such, lies with them. The industry has always been there just to make money.

    +1 This.

It's OK to listen to music which is outside of the current chart, new and old it won't kill you, it'll only do you good really. ;)

Sadly, the charts today are filled with pap. Happily, because of the age we live in, music is instantly accessible. The stuff I listen to - rock and heavy metal - is underground but some of the bands are wonderful. Just look on Wikipedia, search list of
(pop/rap/rock) artists/bands, and take a look at some. That's how I found Finntroll and Skyclad.

If you're looking for something new to listen to:

    Sophie Ellis-Bextor
    Roisin Murphy
    Bat For Lashes
    Future Perfect
    Parralox
    Northern Kind
    Goldfrapp
    Caro Emerald
    Loreen
    Little Boots
    Laura Marling
    The Raveonettes
    Marina and the Diamonds
    Katy B
    Within Temptation
    Charli XCX
    Katie Melua
    Client

Just a few random less mainstream/commercially successful (or not at all mainstream) acts I listen to. There's a mix of pop, rock (Within Temptation), folk (Laura Marling), jazz (Caro Emerald) and electronica there. Just search the internet and you'll find them. A lot of those acts have music on iTunes.

It's ironic that people say this in a bid to present themselves as someone with superior music taste, when really it demonstrates that they seemingly don't pay much attention to the industry out with top 40.

the structure of the music industry and how the consumer obtains music has changed. The digital era means that consumers want music instantaneously. This results in popular artists having to produce material i.e, release an album every two years. Also, the format of the talent show is conducive to the modern day music industry. Simply because the commercialism with which these artists are produced modifies them as brands that are consistently marketed to reach a young and populist audience.

People get the music they deserve. Anything less than top quality is simply a matter of what the punters want to buy. If they're willing to buy crap then record companies will give them more crap.

Away from the market-led model, though, there is still a lot of really good music around and, of course, with the ubiquitous and limitless internet you also have 60 years of popular music to mine, so you never need worry about what's in the charts now, so I really wouldn't fret too much if kids are throwing their money away on One Direction. If they want to listen to something else (or something "better") then there's a world of music a click of a mouse away.

I don't listen to chart music because I know it's shit (to my ears at least). But there's plenty of music to be found out there, old and new.

The sad thing is though I think most people just aren't interested in mining for better music, just proves they aren't proper music fans in my opinion. ;)
