    in bruges. 4/10.

poorly scripted uk gangster flick with the single "plot twist" horribly obvious. setting it in Bruges is a stupid gimmick with no connection to the story.
Bruges is purgatory. They are there awaiting their fate. The whole fairytale / otherworldliness of the city adds the the effect. I think it would have been a lesser film if it was called In Leicester or In Stoke.

Side Effects - Rooney Mara and Jude Law - stellar! Well-told suspenseful story with awesome cinematography to boot - 8/10

Films recently watched courtesy of DS members' recommendations:

    Zodiac - Great performances, suspenseful and well-paced - 9/10

Copycat - Liked the story but the killer lacked presence for me - 7/10

Arlington Road - Solid watch but one or two gaping plot holes and a dodgy performance from Jeff Bridges. Very unique ending! - 7.5/10

Unthinkable - Thought provoking like most great dramas are - 8/10

Sister (L'enfant d'en haut) - Meh. Lea Seydoux is pretty mediocre, I must say. 6.5/10

The Hunt (Jagten) - the plot is bonkers. Superb acting by Mads Mikkelsen. 8.5/10

Yup. Rushed to the cinema at the time in response to the hype surrounding it (as well as its cast list) and was greatly underwhelmed...

The Brazilian tourist board weren't amused by this tale of backpackers abducted by a surgeon looking for spare organs.

Slap Shot (1977) - 8/10. Third time I have seen this black comedy film, and the amount of swearing - especially whenever Paul Newman swore like a sailor - and violence still startled me. I'm pretty sure there's more swearing in this than The Warriors and Mean Streets combined. :D Still a great film, though. Makes me want to watch Breaking Away, another underrated 1970s gem.

    Resident Evil: Extinction - 7/10.

I decided to watch this series for the first time. It generally seems to get negative comments but so far I'm enjoying it. I prefer Apocalypse so far, but I still liked this one.
