i want to play ps4 in my room so it makes sense to get either a monitor or a tv
and i thought monitors were cheaper:eek:
Yea what I meant was, if it was just for playstation I don't know why you would go with a monitor. just go with a TV. You can get an LG 60" Full HD 1080p Freeview HD 3D Plasma Smart TV for £840 you wont get a 60 inch monitor for anything close to that.
Monitors have higher resolution and pixel density than a TV but if you are just using for playstation then you need either

i want a small tv or monitor for my desk, not a 60' tv
i have a large tv already in my living room, but i would rather play the new ps4 in my bedroom.
You do mean monitor as in plug into a PC monitor right?
yeah a monitor
i heard they are better for gaming. plus i am going to be sitting relatively close to the screen so thought a monitor would be better for my eyes/
I use a 22" monitor for my consoles, I use a headset for sound works well for me, When it isn't used for my consoles it is used as a second screen on my desktop :P

Yes they look great no real difference to using my big tv, I just feel more comfortable having a smaller screen I can use any time instead of taking over the living room tv.
Graphics don't change when using a monitor, the main reason people prefer gaming on a monitor over a TV is LATENCY, TV's tend to add features/filters (which can be turned off to an extent) which bump up the response time to around 30ms to well into the hundreds, where as most Monitors, with HDCP and upscaling a console tend to be around 8ms to 22ms.
So it's just, on average, if you want a low response time, Monitors are usually the much better option. Keep in mind that a Single Frame Delay is roughly 16ms, so if you get a monitor at or below that number, you'll be getting near instant, which many shooters and fighters benefit from.

That's a good minitor, but know that consoles do not go to 120Hz, so the smoothest option would be sort of locked out unless you were planning on using it for PC Gaming to.

not really interested in pc gaming
i just want the monitor to use for my ps4 (pre ordered it already) and to hook it up to my macbook pro.
HDCP is a protection system that is built in to most Blu-Ray devices (PS3 for example).
PS4 will almost certainly be the same, as it has Blu-Ray playback, so make sure the monitor is HDCP compliant (if it has HDMI, it should be - but read the spec!).
I would have thought the PS4 should be capable of 120hz, but it probably would only use that if a 3D mode was enabled (so you'd need a monitor with 3D support to take advantage, if that arose..)

okay thanks
do you its worth getting a 3d monitor which is 120hz.
it will cost about £80 more i think than a normal monitor which is 60hz

It would let you watch 3D Blu-Ray movies too, so you'd have access to a feature you'd lose otherwise. I'd say it's worth the extra, it'll probably have a faster response time under normal 60hz too.
The macbook pro with retina display has HDMI out .. if you do not have that model you can use an adapter.
The LG is excellent.. 21:9 ... 29 inch... 5ms response time. I use this for both my Xbox & PS3 and will be my PS4.
I also use ASUS VG248QE for PC.. 1ms response time!
If your an avid gamer .. console or PC I suggest gaming monitors are right up your street. Way better response, colours and pixel pitch than TV.
That LG looks awesome, I have one question though, how does PS3/Xbox360 games look, its a far wider screen than current gen consoles support, just curious how it displays.
I'm using an AOC at the moment but looking for something bigger and 'better' and that LG looks perfect.

Monitors as rule are usually more expensive than TV's.I dont see why anybody would get one just for Playstation.

I have 2no ASUS and a new LG 29EA93-P ... The LG is superb.
Once you have used a monitor you will never go back to TV..

oh wow that lg looks nice
can you hook that up to your macbook pro? i dont have a desktop pc, just a macbook.
also what's it like when playing your console?

I gave you the link to a decent monitor further on up the thread if you'd bothered checking.
