I think you'll find it was Pippet

I was crying so much my ears were all bunged up and misheard the name of the dog.

You'll be telling next the shark wasn't called Paws.

At the start i found Draco's death in Dragonheart quite sad and upsetting but then it switched from that to uplifting and wonderful in the matter of a minute! :)

The dog in The Thing. 1980s version.

I do remember thinking that was quite sad because they just left him there, although the dog seemed to know that something was not quite right.

    ...Tarka the otter..
People confuse this film with 'Ring of Bright Water' in which the otter Mij is killed by a ditch digger.

I've seen both. Tarka is the one where he a wild otter and has a canine enemy. Can't remember the dog's name but he was an Otterhound.

    Mij was a pet.

    That's the one I nominate :(

I saw 'Ring Of Bright Water' at the pictures when I was about four ( must have been when it first came out)
So shocking and sudden...I was traumatised for life!

Has anyone seen 'The Bear'? Oh my goodness - when mother bear dies at the beginning is just tear-jerking - with baby bear sitting by her side waiting for her to wake up!

I have seem Dead Calm - and it is very good.

I do think there is mileage in there though for a film called Dead Clam!

But it wasn't the dog by then - it was the 'the thing' that had assimilated itself to impersonate the dog. It was the other dogs in the compound with it that were the ones that I felt sorry for.

Sorry if this may have been mentioned, nut I remembered Kerchak from Disney's adaptation of Tarzan. It was sad how he and Tarzan finally bonded after the battle.
