30 Years since the first ever CD..which was the first everyone bought?
Think mine was two Dire Straits albums...Brothers in Arms and Making movies.
There weren't many to choose from in 1983. I think Dire Straits career suffered because people were sick of playing the same cd over and over
CDs were pretty expensive as well i seem to remember.
The sound quality was awful. Unless you had a really good system, i don't know, but i bought a philips cd player and it sounded terrible on my hi-fi. Too tinny a sound.
I think hi-fis and discs have improved over the years and they sound a bit better now.

I think it cost me £9.99, which was a bit of a jump up from the £3.99 that I was paying for chart LPs and cassettes at the time.
Still got it.
I can remember being so disappointed with the sound of the CD as the Vinyl sounded so much better way more depth of sound. Hence to this day I still buy vinyls you can't beat the sound of the spinning black plastic.
My first cassette was a few months earlier, It's Oh So Quiet - Bjork
First CD recieved was either Eternal- Greatest Hits or Spice Girls- Spice up Your life.
First i actively sought out was Steps- Say Yyou'll Be mine/Better The Devil You Know
And the very first cd i bought i found in a bargain basket at the record store I think it was about £4.99 and it was a Drifters hits... in fact i bought it in anticipation of the cd player i was about to buy!...:D.... The second one i bought was Simon and Garfunkals.... Bridge over troubled Waters...one of my most favourite records of the time and a replacement for the LP that we already had ......
