Just wondering if next year we will miss out. They are suppose to start filming series 8 in January. Meaning if it is an average 9 - 10 month shoot they will wrap sometime in October or November. Unless they do extra or work to a really tight schedule. We should get 12 episodes shown in a straight run instead of the usual 14 .13 the main series followed by a christmas episode at the end of the year. Bit sad to miss two episodes. Quality not quantity though. If we get 12 really good episodes next autumn the 12th doctor would have got his feet firmly under the table. Wishing him good scripts, good actors to guest star and good monstors to fight.:):D

I think either one of two things will happen...
- Series 8 will be like Series 1 and Series 5 in that it doesn't contain its own Christmas episode. The 2014 festive special will be considered part of Series 9, and this will make the 12-part eighth series the shortest run since the show returned in 2005 by one episode.
- They're making a permanent change to the production format and the Christmas special will be considered part of the series that came before it, rather than the one that came after it. In which case Series 8 will contain thirteen episodes, rather than fourteen... so we still only lose one episode. (It will make the series the same length as Series 1 and Series 5, which both also only contained 13 episodes).
This is a bit OT, but does that mean that series 7 is actually 15 episodes? 13 + 2 Christmas specials?
16 if you include the anniversary special.
ECCLESTON
Series 1 (13 episodes)
TENNANT
Series 2 (13 episodes + Christmas Special)
Series 3 (13 episodes + Christmas Special)
Series 4 (13 episodes + Christmas Special)
Tenth Doctor Specials (5 episodes)
SMITH
Series 5 (13 episodes)
Series 6 (13 episodes + Christmas Special)
Series 7 (13 episodes + 2 Christmas Specials)
Eleventh Doctor Specials (2 episodes)
Which one? A Christmas Carol is considered a part of series 6.
As mentioned above, each Christmas special is filmed as part of production for the series that comes after it, not before.
David Tennant's final episode came before series 5 so wasn't a part of the same production.
Series 2 - 14 episodes (Christmas Invasion is first)
Series 3 - 14 episodes (starting with Runaway Bride)
Series 4 - 19 episodes (Voyage of the Damned, 13 episode season, The Next Doctor, two more specials, The End of Time)
Series 5 - 13 episodes
Series 6 - 14 episodes (A Christmas Carol onwards)
Series 7 - 17 episodes (Wardrobe, 5 regular episodes, Snowmen, 8 more episodes, November and Christmas specials)
OR DIE!
