Not sure what TV I need

A couple of weeks ago I bought myself a Wii U with Mario.
However it came with a cable im unfamiliar with. I thought it would come with a scart lead that you know technology things have done for the past 15 years but it came with a small grey cable I havent a clue what it is.
My tv is a panasonic but not sure what the model number is because to move the TV would take at least 2 people to do it as its very heavy. I dont recall it having a port in the back for this small lead only the RF ariel port and 3 scart ports.
Why they have to be so complicated these days ive no idea unless they ve put the wrong lead in the box I dunno. Maybe they sold me a american console or something as they have different leads over there.

You say you can't be bothered to lift the TV to find out what model it is, so I guess you mean it is a CRT TV rather than a flat panel TV and therefore won't have an HDMI port. You won't need to buy a new TV and it's no help moaning about your lack of knowledge.
Can you post a picture of the cable and the back/side of the TV showing the connections?

The tv took 2 people to lift on the stand so its too heavy to look at.
There seems to be far too many types of tvs and alough im interested in buying a new one ive no idea what the best ones are.
I thought they were just LCD ones but ive heard HD ones and plasma.

If these tv are so great why do they have so many problems?
They don't - decent quality LCD and Plasma sets far exceed the quality (and reliability) of CRT sets.
Ah, well, you may wish to note make, model and serial numbers of all electronics (including pre-loved) for insurance purposes and upload to a brand new http://www.immobilise.com account.
Use some mirrors to see behind the set or (radical approach!) get some friends to help you move it next time you're vacuuming and dusting that part of your room and seach http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Support/219854/index.html to find a manual.
The best advise I can give is to go to the likes of Currys, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and have a look at the TVs on display and see which one you like the look of in your price range.
All TVs now come with HDMI so just bear in mind any scart sockets you may require as not all TVs come with more than 1 scart socket.
Thats probably going to annoy me then as at the moment im using 3 scart sockets.
1 for the DVD Recorder
1 for the xbox 360
1 for the PS2
Almost all sets only have one legacy SCART now - but using HDMI (or component) for your XBox360 will make it HD, and improve the picture quality unbelievably.
If your DVD recorder has Component, use that for the DVD, and HDMI for the XBox360, leaving the SCART for your PS2.

You can use the same leads that you could use with the old Wii, as the AV port is backwards compatible.
Obviously it won't give you an HD picture unless you get a new TV though.
Looks like this years best TVs will be the Panasonic Plasmas again..

Plasmas aren't great if there is direct light from a window on to the screen or if the room is bright. Power consumption is higher and there can be a risk like CRT of image retention. But in every other area they win. They have better black levels and more realistic pictures. They also have full viewing angles on 2D and 3D as well as better colour and motion response.
The GT50 or VT50 TVs from last year can be picked up for amazing prices now. They were the best of 2012.
If I was going for a new TV today coming from a old CRT I would go for the Panasonic Plasma straight away. My GT50 is absolutely stunning. I have seen the top LG and Sony and they don't come close to the depth and gritty realism of the Panny.

It's just a question of when the three remaining manufacturers give up on Plasma - all other manufacturers dropped them long since.
