Everyone has been hypnotised by all the pre film hype
Or alternatively you just think "just because that Lordy Lordy doesn't like it, everyone else is wrong"
You don't like it as much as a lot of other people - and no one should argue with that, but can people please (and you're not the only one who does this) stop thinking that it's only what you think that counts.
If literally everyone who watched Skyfall loved it then something certainly would be wrong
Any else think the film was a cross between the Bourne series and Austin powers?
And a bit of Home Alone thrown in for good measure.:D
Caught the film Tuesday, going for a second time on Sunday, enjoyed it, good story, about 20 minutes too long in my opinion but good action scenes and I hope Mendes is in the chair for Bond 24 in a couple of years.
They used the name SPECTRE because it was thought they'd be in trouble if they kept using SMERSH (which was a real organisation - "Death to Spies") in the movies right?
Just got back from the cinema. I loved it. Nice to have a grittier, darker, back-to-basics Bond without all of the gadgets (esp exploding pens!) but with a realistic anti-Bond villain.
The direction was fantastic and the cinematography (especially in Scotland) were beautiful.
Went to see Skyfall yesterday at the IMAX. Bloody fantastic, really enjoyed it.
I did laugh when the old Bond car appeared on screen and an excited man at the back of the Cinema roared in excitement At least that's what I think he was roaring at.
I was quite disappointed with Skyfall, I thought there would be more chases type action than there was.
Feel that CR was the best followed by Q of S and Skyfall is a sad third place. Everyone has been hypnotised by all the pre film hype and I also agree with a previous poster about the amount of Bond related ads before the start of the film.
The twist at the end was good though, never saw that one coming.
I was qute disappointed too .
CR was great , but I'm not sure this one is even better than QoS .
It starts well , has a great chase sequence , but then after the titles I was quite bored for about an hour , the story wasn't interesting , nor the dialogue and hardly any action .
it perks up when Javier arrives , altho :
that girl getting killed was a weird scene , I didn't even realise she was dead , I thought - 'huh? did she die ?' 'cos Bond didn't even seem to react .
then there's a Public Enquiry ffs ! council meetings in the Matrix films were bad enough !
Scotland looks nice . But I kept waiting for the big central action piece/chase , the big set-piece , and it never comes .
Apparently Skyfall is now the most popular movie ever in the UK in terms of takings on its first 7 days of release.
Not quite. It has just had the biggest opening week in terms of sales (not tickets or "popularity") of any film in the UK with over £37m (though one of the Harry Potters still has the biggest opening weekend). I'm sure many films have sold more tickets in their first week - it's just that current prices mean that you can set records with fewer sales.
Went to see it last night and loved it. Not sure if it was just up here but 30 minutes of ads /trailers beforehand? Tad much for me.
Not just you!
The adverts annoyed me senseless. I was getting really frustrated, and then the trailers started! My OH was peed off with all the Skyfall clips as well. Absolute joke. Luckily the film was so good it was worth the wait.
Not really a review, is it? He does make (or rather, labours) a reasonable point about the underlying misogyny in Bond films. Off the top of my head I can't think of many spy/action thrillers that don't have a sexist subtext, except possibly the Bournes, which are generally credited as having reinvented the genre. So maybe Coren's right and we should have had a post-Bourne Bond film where women are not treated as props and plot devices.
Bond with a story. By far the tightest script ever, in plot and dialogue. Yes, the limited amount of Bond Girls almost wearing a nice little nothing was quite disappointing . However, writing above the lowest denominator always deserves praise. I would recommend it to anyone, regardless of Bond knowledge.
This is not to say it was fiendishly complicated. There were some shocking and controversial scenes.
Not sure it is much of spoiler to say this was a less Bond centric film than any before – but better safe than sorry.
The end to each of the main characters journeys was apparent early on. The final scene would not have been out of place in any previous Bond film. Above all else it was impeccably well done. The Adele theme, title sequence graphics and performances from Bardem, Craig, Dench and Fiennes were excellent.
Though it means I have lost a bet – having predicted Michael Byrne (Admiral Kelly in Tomorrow Never Dies) a decade ago – some people have long memories . I was reassured at the accomplished new M.
To nitpick; M addressing the MP at the inquiry as Minister (a factual error) and Finney being none too Scottish, were the most minor quibbles.
A deeper conundrum was the old against the new, including a sense of Britain/Britishness. References to previous Bond films were plentiful and each constituent part of the United Kingdom was included along with the Union Flag. At times I was confused. Were the references to the past a joke or a device of the story? Is Bond, the character (and the franchise) a success because of this paraphernalia or in spite of them? The area between homage and parody was shadowy.
New Q is an obvious example. If Q doesn't do exploding pens and isn't disapproving of Bond's "sordid escapades" what is his purpose? Ben Whishaw did nothing wrong, but did little to dispel my view that John Cleese should have been in Casino Royale.
The greatest problem is where the franchise goes from here. Arguably this was a more profound reboot (resurrection) than Casino Royale. Craig and co will no doubt continue for a couple more. But what then, a world of permanent resurrection? Perhaps that was the meaning, ask me in fifty years.
Having the Aston was a bit strange, as it sort of implied that he'd been around as Connery in the 60's, which defies logic really. The films aren't meant to be a continuous sequence, but this implied they are, with bond having the fountain of youth.
Brilliant film, this SHOULD have been Daniel Craigs first bond outing, Casino Royale and Quantum were terrible films and I wouldn't even class them as Bond films, they took on fan feedback and brought back BOND. He finally has a sense of humour and throws out one liners. The casting for Q was good, I quite liked him. The villain was a right character, he played him perfectly. There was loads of action and a lot less boring scenes unlike the first 2. I loved the funny references to classic bonds such as Goldeneye and Goldfinger. When he opened the garage the surprise inside gave me goosebumps. The shock twist at the end really shocked me I did not expect that at all.
Only bad part of the film was the Adele song. Fantastic film, can't wait for the DVD release. This for me was definitely Craigs first bond outing and if the next one is as good i'll be watching that too.
Just seen it.
Very underwhelming, I would give it 4/10. This compares to Casino Royale 8/10.
Constantly recycled and uninspiring plot elements and action from other films irked me the most. I kept remembering MI with Tom cruise looking for the stolen 'noc' list in the first half and in the second half utterly unconvincing 'attempts' to kill M by the baddie. This guy supposedly emptied an island, destabilised countries, diverted a tube train underneath London (what exactly did that achieve?) but couldn't fire straight when it mattered or bung a hand grenade in M's direction? He was ex-MI6 for effs sake.
Forgettable movie.
Just saw Skyfall last night but wasn't very impressed. For someone who really likes the Moore/Brosnan era I found the current movie very lacking in light humour and only really two action sequences - the pre-titles and the end set piece. I don't rate Craig as an actor and haven't seen either QoS or Casino Royale, but was expecting more from Skyfall than just a run of the mill TV drama with a train crash and exploding house! Not a film I'd want to own own DVD (or indeed ever see again on TV).

yep, more public school boy, and a man who likes sex, might include experimentation of that nature, or even a honey trap on a previous mission!!

I always think that when Bond heads eastwards (YOLT, TMWTGG, Octopussy, TND and now Skyfall) the films suffer a little
