The amount of porn in Game of thrones

Game of thrones is excellent but is the amount of porn in it really nessecery?

I asked friends in work the day if they watch it and they basically made me feel like a pervert.
If the show was made PG everyone could watch it without feeling ashamed.

The amount of sex is ruining the show. You can't even watch it with your family.

It's nothing compared to Spartacus. Or Debbie Does Dallas.

Yeah and the decapitations, burning with molton gold and general levels of violence are great family viewing! Its not porn, it depicts a normal human act (most of the time) between two (sometimes 3 or 4) consenting (sometimes) adults (sometimes). I would assume it is you with the problems and not the several million people worldwide who watch it and enjoy it. Not all TV is there to be watched with the family, hence why it is on after the watershed.

I dont really mind it, some of them sex scenes are important, but they seem to love chucking sex scenes in where alot of the time they're really not needed, and the time could be used for somethign better.
And yeah, I cringe for those who watch with their parents, lol!

It has murder, decapitation, sadism, torture, extreme bad language and has morally vague to downright evil characters. A bit of occasional nudity and simulated shagging would be the least of my worries if I wanted to watch it with my family.

Why is it so difficult watching it with your family ? Its scripted drama and yes, its tantalsing but its not porn.

Exactly that's my problem. I have no problem with sex scenes I'm a True blood fan and it has them but like you said Game of Thrones just throws them in when they're not needed.

How would you like to be sitting with your mom, dad and granny and a naked woman on the tv? There is nothing as in embarrasing.

I watched the first episode, at the insistence of my OH as he had read the books, and decided as a non-14 year old online gaming male that it wasn't for me.

If the show was PG or family friendly, it wouldn't be Game of Thrones. It'd be terrible. I can't believe there are people complaining they can't watch the show with their family...

Sex is a big factor within the books, and should be within the show too. Essentially, sex in the books and the show is used to make the characters feel more real to the audience, because sex is considered one of the two biggest driving factors of our existence (the other being death). It may look unnecessary but usually the sex scenes do have a point in terms of characterization but people continue to use it blindly to attack the show.

As others have said too, there's huge amounts of violence in the show at times- brutal and slow decapitations, soldiers being cut in half, crowns of molten gold...that's just from the top of my head. Everyone seems to be fine about the violence and gore for some reason however...

So what you are saying is that your "OH" is a 14 year old online gaming male. Unless you are not yet an adult yourself, I think the police need to be called.

That's a shame cos this non-14-year-old online gaming male loves it.
As I am assuming you were claiming that the target audience must be 14-year-old males who like online gaming, I fear that they've completely failed then as they've attracted the viewing attention of this 43-year-old mother of one.

How rude to stereotype an entire audience just because you don't like or understand the appeal of game of thrones.

And this 44 year old mother of two.

Eldest of which also watches GoT & was one of the reasons I gave it a viewing.

It's just sex. It isn't bestiality or anything else really dodgy. It isn't all that explicit. No full frontal male nudity that I remember (unlike Spartacus : - now there is a show I wouldn't watch with family :D ) Some bits are done better than others and most of it isn't at all titivating. Just people bumping uglies :D

Oh dear, what an overreaction... Sure, I actually do think that sometimes the nudity (it's not porn by any stretch of the imagination...) and titillation is a bit gratuitous and I could live without it when it's not necessary to the story (often it is), but when compared to the amount of blood and cruelty in the story, it does make me wonder at the moral authority of those complaining about the sex have. How odd it is that so-called moralisers often whinge about an act that has brought every one of us into this world yet seem silent or quiet about the violence.

As I said above, I do sometimes feel that the show can be gratuitous in its depiction of sexual nudity, something that it doesn't really need to do when it's superfluous to the story. It's a powerful story that can live without a lot of that, but sometimes such nudity has its place and shouldn't be shied away from. Anyway, I'm sure adults can handle such "difficulties" in an adult manner...

The sex scenes are sometimes important and sometimes a bit of fun (e.g. the one this week with Bronn just about to bite that girl's thong :D). All in all they help make the show what it is, one of the most bold and daring on tv.

Most of the sex scenes are fairly quick..so I'm fine with it as long as it doesn't damage the pace of the story and the show.

The only time I thought it was really gratuitous and damaging to the pace of the show was the Baelish and the lesbians scene..

....which just went on and on for a stupid amount of time. It's rare that a lesbian scene would bore me :D...but this dragged on so long it just made me think "we get it..you're women having sex with each other..next".

OP, the original 1995 version might be more to your liking. Far more family friendly.

When I see sex on Games of Thrones or any other tv show, I tell you, it makes me so angry, I sit on the end of my bed and shake my fist at it.

Its a tv show for adults. The reason it has sex scenes is to make that explicit - the number of people who try and make things aimed at adults 'okay for kids' - it ruined the last few Harry Potter films by reducing the violence and dark elements. (okay, HP was young adult but still)
