    Misleading thread title.

You can't download Amazon MP3s directly to your phone. But you can download them to your computer and they'll be automatically added to iTunes with correct metadata and album artwork.

So in order to get the functionality of a £50 normal phone on your £500 iPhone, you need to purchase a £500 computer and install some apple bloatware?

Did you start this thread purely to kick off another iPhone vs Android argument?

I'm using loads of Amazon MP3s on my iPhone and my Android phone. I already had a computer to transfer them with, as do most people own smartphones. If they don't actually own a computer, they likely have access to one in their house.

Apple want to keep their walled garden so they can milk it for all its worth. Yes there is a work around by using a PC.

    iTunes is technically 'crapware'.

I was simply questioning whether the OP had started the thread to start another pointless argument i.e. baiting, which isn't allowed in the T&Cs of the site.

I was actually quite shocked when I read the Amazon thing today. I didn't know that all these sites were locked out.

With all the limitations in iphone, no flash support, no Youtube, no Amazon etc.......why are people still prepared to pay huge sums to own one?

    It genuinely baffles me.

You can play and download Amazon MP3's using the Amazon Cloud player. iTunes or a computer is not required at all, if you already have the music on Amazon's cloud.

Just like you can read and download books with the Kindle app.

What you cannot do is actually purchase books/songs from Amazon directly from those iPhone apps otherwise Apple would get an undeserved commission from each purchase . So unsurprisingly Amazon have removed the ability.

There is a standalone YouTube app in the App Store right now. It was released before iOS 6, so there was no interruption of services for iPhone owners.

So you run the webbrowser on the phone and purchase from that?

That would make more sense, I wonder why those guys on Amazon couldn't find a way round it.

Because people are willing to believe anything, as long as it knocks the iPhone.

I had an open mind about it, and briefly flirted with a (...erm A N Other phone). I chose the iPhone because it does things other phones simply can't do. And now I'm willing to support it.

So Amazon - Yes. YouTube - Yes. Flash - being dropped by other Smartphones

Certainly no limitations in the iPhone at all.

There are lots of limitations with the iPhone. I say that S the owner of one. I know what they are and, for the most part, I'm okay with them. But there are lots of limitations.

When I asked 'like?' im not trying to start an argument I'm genuinely curious because I've never seen iPhone's do anything that other smartphones can't.

    Flash:

I've got by perfectly well without ever having Flash on an iPhone.

What is it used for? Videos, browser games, Flash-based websites.

I don't play browser games on any platform, and wouldn't play them on my iPhone if it had Flash.

Flash-based websites are generally awful. I stay away on my computer, even with Flash present on my browser.

Videos... Flash is on its way out. Apps and HTML5 are taking over, plus Adobe itself is killing off mobile Flash.

iPlayer, 4oD, Demand 5, ITV Player, Sky Go, TV Catchup, Netflix, YouTube... All of these have iPhone apps, with no need for Flash. Some also work via the web browser, even without Flash. Even porn sites are starting to move away from Flash and provide other solutions for mobile browsers.

    YouTube:

It is not a case of "no YouTube". Although the original built-in YouTube app by Apple has been removed as of iOS6, it has been replaced by a far superior YouTube app from Google. In addition, YouTube works via the web browser, which has actually been a far better option than the original app for the last few years.

    Amazon:

As mentioned, there's an Amazon Cloud Player app. Songs you have in Amazon's cloud can be played using that. New songs can be bought from Amazon's website. And if you want, you can use iTunes to transfer Amazon MP3s (and other music) that are on your computer onto your iPhone.

Err, you mean he has a specific App that is only available on Iphone.

Seriously though, I don't own a high end phone of either brand but my daughter went and bought a Samsung tablet to watch movies online and she was advised that the ipad couldn't do it because it had no flash support.

Adobe is not going to phase it out anytime soon, they may stop development of it but it is never going to stop because so many sites use it, not just for video but to run all sorts of online content including games.

I have a samsung galaxy Europa i5500 which cost £50 and I pay £10 a month pay and go to GiffGaff for unlimited internet access.

Then your daughter was given wrong information. You can watch movies from a whole range of places including Netflix and Love film. There also the catch up tv channels.

I regularly watch Netflix, iplayer, YouTube and 4OD on my iPad. Who the hell advised your daughter that iPad didn't support video. They should be taken out and shot!

I'm sure everyone can come up with a very specific use case for themselves that they couldn't do on rival phones. For instance, my phone is set to automatically go into silent during the hours I normally work, plus anytime outside those hours if it knows (from the calendar) that I'm in a meeting or work related event. It also lowers the volume during the hours I'm asleep and increases it during the evening when I would tend to be away from my phone (at home) or in a louder environment (restaurant/bar etc.). It turns bluetooth on when I am a certain distance away from my house, in case I am driving and need it on, and switches it back off again to conserve battery if I am at home or work and don't. It offers reminder beeps/vibrations for missed calls only from certain people (close family, other half etc.) whilst ignoring others, and it does all this from one single app - Tasker. I couldn't do all this with one app (or, to the best of my knowledge, even with several) on the iPhone, but it's a very specific to me use case and not a satisfactory argument in favour of one phone or against another.

For the vast majority of users, in general terms there is little that the iPhone can do that other phones can't, and there's little that other phones can do that the iPhone can't. It's silly to think otherwise, really.

That you can plug a guitar or keyboard in it? Most people (including me) don't play either and even if they do not on an iPhone. I could easily say "on Android I can change the onscreen QWERTY keyboard, the SMS app, the entire look" etc which you can't do on iPhones cos Apple have walled IOS.

I'm sure there are other things iPhones can do that Android, Windows phones etc can't but in turn there's things you can do on them phones that you can't on iPhones cos of the walled OS.

Not trying to nitpick or start an argument just pointing it. My mate couldn't block a number on her iPhone, I suggested a 3rd party app and she looked but there were none. On Androids theres loads.

Its each to their own at the end of the day.

He obviously wasn't on about legal stuff, on android you can watch films and football (inc PL live at 3 on a Saturday) as well as other things like downloading free mp3's etc. which you simply can't do on an iPad due to lack of flash and the walled garden.
