Songs you like by some artists which other artists completely ruin
One of my favourite songs (by one of my favourite artists, Leon Russell) is A Song For You. Check it out on Spotify. However, being a great song it was inevitable that people should cover it, and boy are there some crap cover versions.
Good ones, in my opinion, are those by Christine Aguilera with Herbie Hancock and - just - Donny Hathaway, and utterly crap ones - the same song remember - are by Whitney Houston (starts well, then dies when some idiot of a producer decided to add a ‘disco’ beat after about one and a half minutes) and worst of all, because it is so f*cking safe is a version by The Carpenters. And surprisingly Amy Winehouse has a version which I hate. And of course Simply Red just couldn't leave it alone and reduce it, like most everything they touch, to anodyne crap. And if you like Money's Too Tight Too Mention, listen to the version by The Valentine Brothers (who wrote it, check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money%27s_Too_Tight_%28to_Mention%29) which shows up Mick Fake Soulboy Hucknall for the p*llock he is.
What other songs are there which you like but which have been completely destroyed by some other artists.
PS Another great song is Have I Told You Lately That I Love you by Van Morrison (who wrote it) which is, in my view utterly wrecked by some others.

Sheryl Crow doing Sweet Child O Mine
And I prefer Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You.

Top comment says it all: "Contrary to what you might think, this version is NOT why Ian Curtis killed himself."
Here it is done properly.

I like Jeff Buckley's version
Working in tandem:D
Great minds
Could everyone replying give the version they think is good and as well as the b*llocks versions?
And fools:eek::)
Me too. and KD Lang's.
...er Michael Bolton and Michael 'Mr Bubble' Buble doing anything.
I'll give you Bolton, but I have a soft spot for Mr. Buble.
Great version.
But there are also some songs which become something new by being re-interpretated, for example Credence Clearwater Revival's version of I Heard It Through The Grapevine which is (in my opinion) just as good as Marvin Gaye's original.
Great singalong pop-rock songs covered by Gleeful ninnies.
Sweet Child O' Mine - one of the most ill treated songs in history! regularly defiled on X Factor.
Nobody has ever improved on the original or ever will, I wish they'd just leave it alone.
What about John Belushi covering Joe Cocker covering the Beatles? http://www.veoh.com/watch/v16039034KRFprghT?h1=John+Belushi+-+With+A+Little+Help+From+My+Friend
I like it till the end with that ridiculous long wail. Horrible.
John Cale's is the best cover of Hallelujah imo.
