Convert Electric Units into Kw

How do I convert the number of units I have used with British Gas for a whole year in Kw.
I tried google but nothing popped up

eg a 1 kW fire being on for one hour will use 1 unit.
The question seems to be at odds with the title.
Just what is it that you want to be able to do ... although the two posters before me have helped with what I think are the two possible interpretations of your enquiry.
1 unit = 1 kilowatt-hour (kwh)
1 kwh is what a 1 kw appliance will use in 1 hour.
So, there is no conversion as such, because they measure different things.
For Gas, there are various conversion factors that have to be applied to make the conversion from units to kwh.

Agood idea is to read your meter weekly for the power used then multiply with the cost per unit(kilowatt) from your supplier. hope this helps
the number of units used = the number of kWh used = the difference between the start & end meter readings.
As others have said, with gas it's a bit more complicated, because gas meters measure cubic feet (or metres), and this has to be converted to kWh.
