Purchased this the other day and its my first BD disc in my new BD player, not able to play the DVD version alongside on another tv to compare the quality (picture) but I wasn't that impressed, could be because I thought the movie wasn't that great but the sound was good, thought the neighbour was shooting at me! but maybe I need to get some other back cataloge movie to see the quality of BD.

Don't know whether that would be a fair comparision of the two formats, anyway, as the DVD supplied with the 'Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy' edition is in NTSC.

So, let me get this straight - because you didn't think the film itself was that great it affected the quality of the image you were seeing. Hmmmmmm.
Seriously, if you weren't impressed with the quality I would return your player right now because you've wasted your money.
Skyfall blu-ray has received sterling reviews on a multitude of blu-ray sites and is quoted as being the demo-disc of the moment. It get full marks for everything other than the so-so extras.

These are only a still example of the disc but look awesome: http://blushots.weebly.com/skyfall.html

    Stick to DVD mate.

Is your tv set any good? Have you tried adjusting the colours on it to get the best possible picture?

Personally, I wouldn't blind buy BDs. I've only bought old favourites that I'm likely to re-watch multiple times. You can always sell your copy of Skyfall (CeX, maybe?) if you don't like the film, though.

well, a few heated comments, I have a 40" Pannasonic tV and I'm chuffed with it, gives good results with the HD channels I have with freesat, so difficult to work out the quality from freesat and upscaled to BD, it may be that Skyfall does get good reviews re-picture quality but I don't have a "guide" "mark" or whatever how you gauge these qualities but I still think it was so so film as far as storey is concerned, not a patch on Casino Royal! which had that bit of class and the fact it was a change in how they portreyed the Bond image/storey, franchise so far.

    Only learning!

    Yes you have.....your eyes!
If you genuinely can't see the brilliant quality of the picture then Blu-ray is wasted on you.

Perhaps. I liked QoS more than Skyfall, and don't understand why its unpopular. The plot - not about oil at all, but about water - was more interesting, and the bad guys were more chilling, especially in their casual disposal of women. The Bond girl worked better too. Skyfall, by comparison, was a mess.
I agree about the Bond girl. Skyfall had a secretary and a hostess. At least QoS had a girl with some chutzpah. I don't count Arterton's appearance.

Maybe you need to see an old favourite on Blu that has a fantastic restoration such as Jaws.

Is that tv a 720p set, or is it 1080p?

Upscaled DVD's aren't indicative of the quality of a Blu Ray, upscaled DVD's look better than if you were playing it through a standard DVD player, but it's nowhere near the picture or audio quality that you will find on Blu Ray, even if your TV is only 720p you should still be able to see the difference.

Try watching the DVD of Avatar and then switch to the Blu Ray, it's like night and day. Skyfall actually looks really nice on Blu Ray too, infact all of the Daniel Craig Bond movies are reference quality in my opinion, particularly Casino Royale.

The product placement, how much did you notice? I've got a dissertation on it, should take 10 minutes but if possible, please take my anonymous questionnaire, if nothing else test your knowledge (watch out for traps)

You're clearly young as you think bundling everyone over 35 into the same age bracket is okay!

I won't answer the survey, but the main standouts were Sony Vaio, Omega, Aston Martin....even before the bloody film started, there was Bond-related Sony and Omega ads in the cinema!!!

Some Blu-Ray players for some reason need to be set to HD. Mine defaults to less than HD, so I have to press a HDMI button on my remote to set either 720p, 1080i or 1080p. The difference is obvious when you do this.

Watched skyfall for first time today on sky store. Really enjoyed it, which was surprising after my uncle`s review of it. didn`t care much for the javier bardem performance. a bit too camp for my liking but daniel craig is perfect as bond. Nice touch with the DB5 as well. I really hope daniel continues to play bond for at least another one or two films.

Just watched SkyFall on Virgin Movies and thought it was excellent. Having a younger Q was a masterstroke as opposed to the awful over the top performances of John Cleese et al.

Very surprising twist at the end to find out M was Bond's mother - not quite sure how that works but hey its fiction after all!

Not sure how you came to that conclusion.
