White House Down
Just got back from seeing this. Everything you'd expect from Roland Emmerich - absurd, over the top, cheesy, plot twists with signposts so large you could see them from space and a healthy dose of schmaltz as well.
But, hugely entertaining to boot.
Olympus has Fallen was far, far superior to this in every way, but this is certainly a fairly harmless way to spend a couple of hours.

I did read that White House Down flopped badly in the US when it was released over there. However its a decent film!
3/5
The only bit I didn't like was the bit with the flag....you'll see!
The flag part .. oh my god ..
It was slightly more cheesy than the "today is our independence day" speech by Bill Pullman from ID4 if that was even possible.
Enjoyed this more then Olympus Has Fallen - which was equally OTT, but there was just more fun in White House Down...the title alone, has to hook you.
7/10
Told from a slightly different perspective; same premise; same premises (haha); double-crossing baddie; unapologetically predictable.
But ... still worth a watch.
Also the flag scene nearly made me barf on my popcorn.
Overall, rather entertaining film that was pretty harmless. lol
Even if it was 3pm showing
Hilarious film tho
I am quite surprised two extremely similar films were made/released in a shortish time frame. They were just identical in so many ways which was odd.
Worth a watch if you don't take your cinema going too seriously, but I didn't really get the point of releasing this a film such a short time after Olympus Has Fallen.
I seem to remember this happening before in the late 90's, There were two films about volcanoes released near each other. One was called Volcano and the other was Dantes Peak. Then two films about a meteor hitting the earth were released in the same year namely Armageddon and Deep Impact.
That's a very good point.
OK, I won't lie, I actually enjoyed Olympus Has Fallen & White House Down, but I just feel this is such a stupid thing to do & I just don't understand why film producers do things like this, as it seems to unnecessary to release such similar films in the bosom of each other.
Plot twists were obvious from a mile off.
Jamie Foxx was awful and Channing's daughter was one of the most irritating characters I've ever seen on the big screen.
There were more twists than I expected, and the last twist came as a complete surprise to me. There was an obvious plot hole in the fact that Channing Tatum's character was obviously unsuitable for the job he was applying for, and (if his employment record was accurately described) he would not have had the ability or courage to do all the things he went on to do.
I didn't have great expectations (and before the film started I didn't even know if it was going to be about terrorists or aliens) but I was more than satisfied.
Is that not a good thing?
Die Hard is one of the best action films ever & is now a classic.
We are sitting here in the house watching it, it's utter shite, boring personal stuff and the oh keeps saying that the gyllenhall thing has to be the worst excuse for an actress ever.
Olympus has Fallen was far superior to this bile.
I keep shouting FFS shoot her in the head and the gyllenhall thing needs to go make the coffee and let the grown ups talk.
So happy I never paid to see this.
I agree - Die Hard and Die Hard with a Vengeance are both great films.
To me the issue with OHF was that it was essentially the same plot but a) even less believable and b) without the humour
