A lot of fans seem divided. Some think the show has gone really downhill and some think it's still good. Personally, I don't think the show is as funny as it once was, but I'm comfortable enough with the characters and the story to not care. I hope you like the show.
Because if you don't like it, the OP can't possibly disagree?
Comparing HIMYM to Friends is always dangerous. I never liked Friends at all but I understand that many people loved it. Opinions on HIMYM are equally split - personally, I loved the first few seasons but accept that the quality did dip significantly later on and I'm only continuing to watch to see the resolution. Maybe they should have wrapped it up a season or two ago but I'm pleased it is ending this year.
I'd certainly recommend watching the first season. If you don't like it by the end of S1 then it's unlikely that you will ever like it and you should cut your losses.
If you really want to get into it, watch season 1-3, then wait until the final episode of season 9 airs and skip to it.
Millions of people think it's the funniest thing in the world. It never raised even a slight giggle from me. Just goes to show how comedy is a very personal thing.
Can't hurt for you to give the first season a try and see what you think.
I don't find it funny either, and in fact don't know anybody that does, or even watches it. I had no idea that it was considered popular, nor that it had nine seasons. I just presumed that E4 were rotating a few seasons over and over as a Friends replacement.
A bit off point but I also can't stand 2 Broke Girls and have no idea why it's so popular!? To balance things out I do like Big Bang Theory from what I've seen.
When did i say i don't like it? When did i say the OP can't possibly disagree? Don't put words in my mouth thanks.
I gave my opinion to the OP not to waste his time watching it. The show has been dragged on for too long and the quality has dipped massively.
I love 2 Broke Girls, i find it really funny. Saying that i can't stand Big Bang Theory, every episode i've watched i have hated and it's never once made me actually laugh, but it's such a popular show..
However saying this the last season has been disappointing to me so far. There has hardly been any scenes with the mother in and considering there's only about 14 episodes or so left I have no idea how I'm supposed to form a connection with the mother because right now I just don't care enough about her and Teds relationship.
Agree with this
Barney can be funny sometimes (opposite, makes out he is selfish but pretty honest about his behaviour with women and does his mates a lot of nice favours)
Give it a go, and you'll soon see if you love it or need to give up on it.
So you honestly expected the OP to not interpret "Don't waste your time" as you basically claiming you don't personally like the show? If you think the OP may like the show and therefore disagree with your opinion, why didn't you bother writing something constructive?
I think it's not quite as good as when it was fresh but it's not a chore to watch either. I still enjoy it and it still makes me laugh.
As others have said the early series 1-3 are the best, 4 & 5 are good (although s4 ep19 - Murtaugh List is probably my favourite episode), 6 is okay, 7 and 8 is where it starts to go wrong. I'm waiting on E4 for 9 to start as I'm not that fussed as it's no longer a must watch. Just want to see the culmination.
Off topic, tonight is the last epsiode of Happy Endings (E4), which I thought was much better than HIMYM and only got 3 series.
Considering the character is such a moaning, insecure and selfish person, it's quite remarkable that his has spent the last 9 years sleeping with a dozens of hot women. He's done OK for himself so shouldn't moan too much
Personally, he should have stuck with the utterly lovely Dancia McKellar from Season 1's "The Pineapple Incident" (and one of the best episodes ever) but the show would have been a lot shorter.
ah but they never last - he's a decent looking bloke, I wouldn't say no based on his looks alone. But after a few dates... the whinging, the me me me - would make me run for the door like all the others
I did write something constructive.. I told OP not to waste his time with it.
How is that constructive? The OP was asking about the quality of later seasons, not whether he/she should start watching or not.
