Just being nosey...

Does anybody know when Sci-Fi is changing to SyFy (like the US has already done)??

Reason for asking is that Sky are showing a HD trailer that shows the SyFy HD logo on channel 998.

If they have any ounce of common sense, never. Its a stupid re-brand explained by some marketing twerp as "that's how I'd text it".

Really? Because SCIFI is that difficult to spell is it?

Replacing I's with Y's is not exactly "fresh", besides they could easily refresh their image and keep the correct spelling.

SYFY can be a trademark - SciFi can't.

And yet they've done just fine up to now. It looks reeeally weird as a name and logo.

I was just going to say the same.

What's wrong with sci-fi? Everyone knows what it is. Just another case of if it ain't broke...

The "SyFy" spelling looks absolutely horrible.

Either way, it's not good English is it?

Well, apart from the conclusion that Americans are complete idiots and couldn't spell properly if they were forced to try at gunpoint, the justification for the ident change by the designer was that sci fi wanted to be dynamic and "in the now".

They are probably just trying to target a group of more mainstream viewers that have a superficial opinion of the word sci-fi. Sounds like a stupid reason, but I bet they'll have done a load of research on demographics etc and found out that these people exist.

Is the UK sci-fi channel related to the US one? When I had cable years ago, I remember they had different owners.

The US Sci-Fi Channel's owner bought the UK channel back a few years ago, they're the same company again, just like when they first started.

I think the same thing. I like the Sci-Fi channel, maybe they could think of a new logo or something but SyFy just sounds stupid, likes some kind of child's toy

dave, watch, yesterday, really and now SyFy?

Are all channel controllers on pot?

Didnt Britain used to have a reputation for the best TV in the world??

to be fair, I loved the name change with dave. it's nice to have a channel that's largely man-centric.

sure - but renaming Sci-Fi as Syfy, which isn't even a word, is the lamest rebranding in the history of rebranding.

    IMO.

Surprisingly though, it's resulted in an increase in ratings... Much the same way the dave rebrand did.

It is not as imaginative as Blighty - which is a clever evocative channel name for programmes about the UK.

Sci Fi could have done much better,

New Horizons, for instance, off the top of my head.

What next - Sci Fi rename their plus one channel as R2D2?
