Slipped on the ice and hit my head hard.

Should I be worried? About 2 hours ago I was walking my dogs and slipped backwards on the ice, it was a clean backwards fall and I smacked my head on the ground very hard. I think I lost conciousness for about 2 seconds im not sure, it may have just been a blank moment rather than loss of conciousness. I stood up pretty much instantly, when i tried to speak I was crying quite hard, almost hysterically to be honest, I didn't intend to cry but it just came out I had no choice. I thought I was going to be sick (I wasn't).
Anyway, after getting back in my head didn't really hurt as such but I did feel ever so slightly dizzy, when I looked up it looked as if the ceiling was rippling and my head felt sort of gritty when ever I moved it around.
I didn't have any memory loss and I didn't really have a headache or anything. My vision just feels ever so slightly shaky, (very slightly). My elbow really really hurts but I'm not worried about that because that'll heal, it's just theres always a bit of worry when it's a head thing. Do you think I should be worried?

Agreed !!!
If you did loose consciousness, even if only briefly, and it would appear that you did, then that is the situation in which you should go to A and E to get yourself checked out.
It's probably nothing, but you want to make sure, nevertheless.
I don't want to sound alarmist but when Natasha Richardson banged her head ski-ing she felt fine afterwards - she ended up in hospital later that afternoon with internal bleeding and died the next day
OP, head injuries are not to be trifled with, especially where there is probable LOC, dizziness and visual disturbance. Get off the phone and get yourself to A+E.
Get someone/a taxi to take you to A&E Now. NHS Direct will send you there anyway.
Grivel spider
Or a
Traction aid
Natasha Richardson. It was reported that she felt fine after the accident then complained of a headache a few hours later.
I wouldn't leave any knock to the head unseen by a medic. You can never be sure, best to be safe rather than sorry.
Go to A & E eve.
Even if you got up and went about your business after.
If you think you lost conciousness then you definately must go.
Head injuries can be severe no matter how minor they appear.
I will say however if you vomit within an hour to two of hitting your head then you should deffo get your self to A & E.
Also if your pupils are reacting sluggish to light or you have any noticable limb deficits or gripping problems or you speech starts to change and your memory plays up.
As it was hours ago you are probably ok. A sub dural or sub arach tends to cause damage within a hour or two.
But yes as the others said better being safe not sorry and get to A&E - if you are not displaying any major GCS (glasgow coma scale) deficits then you wont get scanned. However the fact you lost conciousness is a reason to go to A&E
Good luck and I hope you are ok
(edit - I just noticed this was last night! :duh! Hope you are ok eve! xxx let us know if you are fine! )
Not always easy when your nearest A and E can be 20 miles away. I can't have an accident in my town after 6pm.
A+E would be out of the question , its 20 miles away from them. They are having blizzard conditions and are stranded in their village.
:eek::eek::eek:
If you had any brain injury Id certainly not being on asking if I should go to the A+E then ask whats the NHS Direct phone number .
